Anyone know info regarding VIN numbers?

Hey all, working on insurance and learned that insurers use the VIN to identify if the bike is "street", "cruiser", "sport" or "off road". Anyone have any idea what the 2014 ES VIN indicates it is? Thanks.

What many of us found with the first shipment of Super Tens in July, 2011, was that it depended on the insurer. I switched from Foremost to Nationwide, because Foremost classified it as a high performance sport bike with a high premium reflecting that ridiculous classification.

I went from AAA to Foremost and got much better rates. The Foremost agent (now retired) is a motorcyclist and specialized insuring motorcyclists. I will check with Nationwide for rates.

State Farm was the same in '11. Until the system got caught up we went kind of side door with the value. My policy now reads 'dualpurp'. Unknown which part of the vin says what. There are on line vin id sites that will identify all sorts of bits in a vin. I wonder if they work for bikes.

The VIN relates to the model.
As Fred wrote, the class the model falls into is up to the insurance company.

The XT Yamaha models have been dual purpose for all the Yamahas, going back for about 50 years, so I've never understood why some companies classes them as sport bikes.

Just shop companies.

Thanks all. I ended up going with Progressive as the price didn't change when I put in the VIN. Hopefully things don't change. We'll see...may have to shop again! Picking up my new ES in about 2 hours. Very excited!!!!!

I just cancelled my progressive policy- they quoted me over twice what I was paying for a 2007 Goldwing.
I went with geico as they priced my 2013 ST only slightly higher than the Wing.
