The wife and I had Cali scientific on our KLRs and loved them. Put them on our F800GSs and their great. Don't have one yet on the Super Ten, as the oem sheild is fine so far, but would put one on if needed. They have got windsheilds figured out. Quiet, no wind buffeting and great price. Whats not to like.

After looking at their offerings, I'm thinking the tinted shorty. It looks sweet and will hopefully get my head up into clean air (I wear earplugs so I don't mind my head in the breeze). Actually I'd love the wind blast to hit just at my shoulders as it did on my VFR - never had buffeting issues with that bike.

The buffeting is the ONLY thing about this bike I don't like - it comes on about 65MPH indicated, and gets worse at highway speeds. And it's not just a little annoying, it is a teeth-rattling, headache inducing, ride destroying pain. Other than that the bike fits me perfectly so I love it, love it, love it. Just got to get this one issue resolved...

My shorty screen is much better than stock but there's still some bad air . I'm going
to remove mirrors and see if its better . This was the cure on my FZ1 .

Are you wearing a helmet?

I am wondering what the deal is with the name "California Scientific" . Their thing seems to be this grand study of air movements and then the glorious results of perfection. I wonder how many get moved by that? I would think that any one of these shield makers does something to research their products. There are many opinions good and bad about all of these brands. One will say "best ever" while another says, "this sucks". And both will be the same height and similar in size. The Cal Sci deal for me was because I got a deal on a very lightly used one for a nice discount plus I like the way it looks. The optical clarity is clear, the wind protection is miles beyond stock as it is 6 or so inches higher an somewhat wider. It is not like being in a wind tunnel though,( this is not a gold wing we are riding here) I do not get any vibrations or hard buffeting, but I hear the wind and can feel it coming around. At high speeds the difference is huge, not nearly as fatiguing, easier to ride,(80-90 mph). If I was doing an off road application I would actually prefer the smaller shield, stock or whatever.

Get yourself a Madstad adjustable bracket and be done with it! ::008::

Can you tell us about your height, inseam, size, helmet, jacket, and where you have the windshield mounted. All of these can cause a rough ride. Can't imagine the Tenere having these kind of effects. Are you riding in heavy traffic, behind big rigs, severe cross winds, volume turned up too loud while you are listening to head banging music?

For those of you looking for a tall tinted windshield, check out Madstad engineering, they have like 4 different tints and a few sizes and styles to choose from.

Saw one on another guys bike today, and came home and ordered one.

6' tall, 32" inseam, 185 pounds, Rocket 101 Carbon (HJC FS-15 Carbon), Fieldsheer perf leather jacket with low collar. Have tried the standard windshield in lower and upper position with the seat in the low and high position - it only changes where the turbulence is slapping my head. Admittedly we have had a particularly windy late winter/early spring, but if I pop my butt up on the back seat I get my head into nice clean air and the helmet is as quiet and stable as it was on my VFR.

I wish I were exaggerating this, but unfortunately I'm not - my teeth literally rattle at 80mph indicated from the turbulent air coming off the stock screen and it seems to be hitting right at the top of my visor. Feels like Buddy Rich is playing paradiddles on the brow of my helmet...

I'm guessing my two choices are a low screen with an adjustable bracket to the bring the air down below my helmet, or a vario screen with spoiler to toss it up over - I would prefer the former as I like the airflow (even during the winter in Florida)...

I am 6' tall, 32" inseam, 220 lbs, multiple jackets but none as smooth as yours, seat in the low position, windshield in the low position with the top mount spaced 1/4" forward, OEM Wind Deflectors. I get some head body movement though during windy and/or traffic conditions.

The wind deflectors can cause the Tenere to move around a bit though they push the wind from coming into and on the rider. If it wasn't for cold and rain I would probably not have them.

I came from the KLR and I used to suggest to others to remove items to see if they were the cause for buffeting. Two suggestions: 1. Space the top of the windshield forward to see if this makes a difference. 2. Remove the windshield to see what the difference is. Another test: Ride behind a big rig, bobtail, bus, etc to see what effect that creates. Then ride into clean air to see the difference.

With that additional info, I can tell you that you will not like a CalSci Med screen. To get the quiet 'pocket', you would need their Large size screen. I have the Med and at 5'11" 32" inseam, it doesn't quite give the quiet pocket effect, but if I lower my head a little, it's there. I didn't want to block all the air flow, so ordered a shorter screen then they suggested with the web site info.

The Med CalSci is ok, but I don't like the lack of air flow to my neck area an the helmet venting doesn't work as well, for me, with the Med screen. I don't have buffeting issues, but didn't with the stock screen in the low position either. I've never been susceptible to buffeting. You might look at Parabellem and see if they offer a shorty screen. No idea if the short CalSci offers any improvements over the stock screen.

TomatoCity offered up some great advice. Try some spacers and play with that a little, and go for a ride with the screen off too. If you get the buffeting w/o the screen, well, it's not the bike.

Buffeting can be addressed by altering windscreen position and angle. It can be exacerbated by having no space under the windscreen, and/or having it too vertical.

I got the Touratech adjustable bracket and went on a 2600mi trip to Baja with the stock windscreen. The first couple hundred miles I suffered miserable teeth-rattling buffeting, until I adjusted it to be in the highest position and angled back as far as possible. Then it was fine, although there was no pocket.

I'm ordering the Cal Sci (medium or large?) to get greater possibilities for tweaking it, since it's at the extremes of the adjustment range now. But I absolutely don't want to be looking through a screen while riding.

I am 6'1" 32 inch inseam and have a large, I use it in the low position. Even in high position I am not looking through it. My line of sight straigh ahead is not through it.

Great, thank you. I'll order the large (6'1" 34 inch inseam).

I have a Cal Sci large and thought it was too tall, even in the low position. Turns out my handlebars were rotated too far forward, making me lean over and bring my head down. Fixed the bars, now the windshield is perfect. I am 6' with a 31 inseam.
