Anyone else run into Altrider rack/Monokey install problem?

Ordered Altrider rack as it is highly reccommended. Ordered the Givi install kit to be able to mount Givi Outback Trekker topcase.
Had to wait some weeks as the mounting kit was back ordered.
Mounting kit finally became available, so ordered one.
The wedge that holds rear of topcase was too wide to go into the latch mechanism.
Altrider tells me that Givi changed the dimensions of the latch mechansim and therefore the mounting kit no longer fits.
I did grind it "east to west" to a size that fits, but now the rear of box can move up and down by 1/4", so there is another error in the construction of the wedge.
Or, I should say, another change in the box that renders the install kit pretty much useless.
Am thinking of using JB weld to build up the wedge to hold the latch properly, but I think that might be a tough go.
Ha, maybe someone on here has a solution to this?
Altrider says they are working on a solution.

Well, I found a solution...... Found a piece of sturdy foam, about 4" x 8" or so and placed that in front of the latching mechanism. Now, it properly catches with a bit of downward pressure to compress the foam. Don't know if it is proper and good for the long haul, but at least for now the box is usable.

I hope yours fits better! Altrider says they can't figger out yet if it is cases made after a certain date or what.
If you have had your topcase awhile, maybe it will all be correct...... If you bought it recently, not so sure. I bought mine in the past 2 months.
Good luck!

I have an old 52L and it mounts up pretty well with this setup. I installed it last weekend. Definitely needs the little bugger bumpers on the bottom of the case but the wedge is not too loose.

The altrider rack covers up the holes where you might run the lighting kit through, I found. I have to move my wiring now.

Here in the UK we are having supply problems - not with the rack, but with the Givi Monokey fitting kit.

The story I get is that supply from Givi has become haphazard/unreliable so, as I understand it, Altrider are having fitting kits made to pattern in the US that will fit their racks without modification, save for adding 4 rubber buffers to the rack or box to ensure a tight fit. I am being quoted 3 weeks delivery, so hopefully I should be able to fit my new Rack/Box at the end of the month.

The Altrider rack certainly looks an impressive piece of kit, good on them. Why Givi couldn't have produced something more capable remains a mystery to me. Then again Yamaha managed to provide us with a feeble plastic thing that is of little practical use - Ok, maybe it looks nice?

I had the exact same problem.

Rack is great, but Givi mount kit will not work with my Outback (not Trekker) case.

Case was bought last July and mont kit in February this year.

Disappointing as would have like to have the option of fitting a top case!

I have some old Givi wedges, just no "spools", just ordered a trekker outback and will be ordering an Altrider rack. Have hopes that it will work...

I had the same problem. The wedge was 1.5" wide and the latch opening about 1.47" wide. The short version is I did a temporary fix by grinding the sides of the wedge a bit. AltRider sent a prototype of the reengineered wedge to me today to test and report back. I just got it so I haven't had time to open it yet. It appears to me they have made fixing this a priority and said the first they heard of it was when I called them last week.

Regarding the case fitting loosely once the wedge fits like it is supposed to; the rubber bumpers need to be moved to a different location so they make contact with the bottom of the Outback Trekker case instead of in the recessed area. Once you move them, it works great.

I've the Altrider rack with the kappa monokey top case from my V Strom, re-used the VStrom wedge and spool mounts. Needed to add some rubber spacers to take up the slack. Solid as it could be, no slop at all. I thought the mount kits came with the stick on spacers...no?

Yep, the mount kit comes with 4 rubber bumpers and a paper cutout pattern as to where to place the bumpers. Perhaps that is the misteak I made, I placed the bumpers EXACTLY as described in the instructions, which means they are in the recessed area. I can see now that someone mentioned it, it would make for a tight fit if they were not in the recessed area......
Prolly a little late to peel them off and restick...
And, I did solve the loose fit by putting a piece of 3/16" firm foam under the box.

I must say that Altrider has been very helpful in all this. They are sending me new bumpers, lest moving them around a few times ruined the stick factor. Very good people.....
Once I moved the bumpers from the recessed area, the latch holds perfectly.
Just make sure you don't stick the bumpers in the recessed area under topcase....

Well I have mine mounted now and it seems to be a good fit with the E45. Have not taken it for a ride yet to see if it makes any noise.

My kit came in a week ago and I mounted it per the enclosed instructions, including location of the "bumpers.

My GIVI V46 is about 3 or 4 years old and it attaches firmly, with no movement. I don't plan on using the GIVI that much, as I don't care for the look, but it is nice to have the option.

I haven't seem the older kits but the bumpers I received are a good 1/4 in thick.

I just mounted my outback trekker 58L topcase to the altrider rack and there is a large gap between rack and the case. For now I put a mouse pad in between but I'll try moving the bumpers to the raised part of the case.
