The thing will NOT go into it's home !
I'm going to NAPA tomorrow for a slightly longer one.
I had it off the other day and it took 30 minutes to put back in...
Tonight after the K&N install, it just wasn't happening...
Everything is lined up PERFECT...
The post is in the rubber grommet and everything...
Just will NOT bite...

Anyone else?

Can you get your finger behind the nut plate? I had a terrible time but with encouragement from a friend and a flash light I saw where I was off on two angles. Was able to get behind one of the plates with a spare finger. After that was completed the second problem resolved itself.

Yeah I've had an issue with that bolt....I found if the fidle with the angle it will thread in....Looks like it will corss thread but it doesn't. I've gotten better at getting that one to thread each time...the first time it took me 20 minutes to get it threaded.

First time I had the fairing off, I ran into this. Spent a solid hour trying to get it to thread. Now, those are the first screws I do, so I can move the fairing around a bit. Works almost flawlessly. Still kind of a pain in the ass, but not as bad.

Yes, they are terrible at going into the threads. Start there first, and switch screws until one goes in, then finish install with the remaining ones.

I noticed that one was tough this past weekend.

Then I noticed that when I crouched down to line it up, then stood up I was changing the angle of approach. Once I dropped it back down to the right angle it went right in.

If Yamaha had made these bolts just a few mm longer it would be so much easier, though this is often a mark of the bean counters saving a few pennies on every bike, as it all adds up... PS I always start with the top lhs bolt then work around the top and start bottom front to rear getting them all started in the threads before tightening up.

While you have that left panel off, you might take a tip that has worked for some of us. Replace that allen head tank bolt with a hex head. Then in the future, you can get to it and remove it with a 10 mm ratcheting box end wrench after only removing 3 of the rear fairing screws, leaving the front ones in place. I have had my tank up many times in over 20,000 miles of ownership and have never had to remove that left fairing panel. Leaving the front screws in place makes it easy to reinsert the rear 3 screws.

I did that, partly because the Rumbux crash bars don't allow removal of the left fairing panel. It does make tank removal easier.

Interesting... I can get my side left front side panel off with my Rumbux bars in place. I just have to turn and wiggle it right and it slides right out.

I have to wiggle the right side to get it out. The left side just won't come out for me.

The night I bought my S10 I couldn't wait to open up the side cover and see how everything was put together. The owner's manual said 4 quick release screws, so how hard could it be... right?
Well the manual also said those screws were on the right side, and in my excitement I took off the left side. That damn upper left screw took 2 days to put back in. I played with it for 20 minutes here, 20 minutes there. Just as I was about to lose my mind, I walked up to give it one last shot and it went right in. Not sure what I did different, but that was the only problem I've ever had with her since.
