Here is ours

16 yo Jack Russell Terrier Bob. We bought him when our son was 5. Our son is senior in college and 21 now. Son is basically gone but still have the dog. We live on a farm and I've always had hunting dogs. Bought Bob because our son liked Wishbone. He turned out to be a great farm dog. Better than any alarm system. He's killed many rabbits saw him kill a ground hog bigger than he was.
Killed a young coon at the barn that cost us 175 dollars to get him stitched up. He could catch mice like a cat in the house when he was young. This dog had a lot of heart was loyal as could be. Smarter than most that I've had. He can't hear it thunder now can barely see his nose still works, these days he sleeps at least 20 hours a day only gets excited at meal time and like us enjoys a good fire on a cold day. Not sure how much he has left in him and it will be a sad day when he's gone. If you got an old dog or good dog tale post up.

Love them old dogs. As a serious dog person (Dogfather), I can dig it. My sweet little Annie is my Forum picture. Also have Holly, another little sheltie. I love my dogs, and as they get older, I love 'em even more. Good post. Everyone be kind to an old dog today. Two legged as well as four legged. Have a good one. I'll throw a pic up later. I'll take a fresh one of them as soon as it comes light. R. ::008::

Lost my Dusty-boy last year. Had a good long life (15) for a Basset, and he was a cantankerous old fart. Not many days go by that I don't miss him. Had a hard time taking my little one to the vet Friday as I was in the waiting room sitting right next to the exam room where Dusty spent his last moments.

Makes it hard when they're part of your family for so long...dogs rule!

We have a 13 year old Jack Russell named Molly. To this day a tennis ball is her crack cocaine, she loves to play ball. When we lived in the country, if another animal other than a dog got in her yard, one of them faced death. I've found dead skunks, opossum, kittens and squirrels. Molly has it in her head that she's an 80# dog instead of the 13# dog that she is. We had a Boxer at one time and she ruled the roost between the two of them. She has cataracts now and doesn't play ball nearly as long as she used to. But like most of us, I think she's not giving in easily to the restrictions that aging puts upon us.

We had a Black Lab named Nala. My daughter named her from the Lion King. She was 15 when we had to put her down last year. The kids all grew up with her and she was gentlest friend we ever had. We now have a rescued mixed chocolate lab and a Chihuahua. Toby and Lily. We also had a Weimer reiner that developed cancer and had to be euthanized at 9. She was a character. Yes we are a dog family.

Weener dog family. Always have 3 or 4. Kids been naming them after food, for years:

Crackers
Pickles
Cookie
Cheetos
Libby (on the label :) )

These critters have the run of the property. Mostly wooded. Get's cold enough, they huddle together or sneak inside.

Fantastic snake dogs. Get bit time to time, but they keep the porch and yard serpent free.

Rarely live real long lives though. I like to think they have more quality, if less quantity. Amazing creatures.

We now have the first small dog we've ever had - a Yorkie-Poo - she is 80 pounds of attitude in an 8 pound dog. She does her own stunts, resulting in two trips to the vet in the last year for life-saving measures. She is wide open, 100% of the time - just a character...

We named her after Dagney Taggart from Atlas Shrugged because she's a feisty bitch who always seems to get her way.... Our Dagney:

The big one is a rescue - 8 pounds of attitude in an 80 pound dog....until it's serious, then you don't want to be in her way. That's our Sadie. Prolly the best dog we've ever had...

I love dog threads - we don't have kids so this is my chance to show off the yunguns...

My other half told me I'd have to get at least fair market value for them, but with my luck I'd have to pay somebody!

Great looking dogs!

Snuffcityrider I knew Russells were bread to go in fox holes but i didn't know how murderous they really are. We have thought for a long time Bob would end up in the belly of a coyote for his murderous ways.

Yes they are! Another story about Molly's murderous ways. A friend of our daughter who is very found of Molly, would keep her while we went on vacation each year. She had her for four years in a row. The last time she dog sat for us she had stepped out side for just a few minutes, when she came back in she noticed that her kitten that Molly seemed to tolarate, was no longer among the living! We learned about it almost a year later when the girls boy friend let it slip...

Now he gets to vacation with mom and dad until I get settled in Houston.

Boca (Del Boca Vista) on the left and Diva (Diva Las Vegas) on the right. Both embarrassed to be seen in their sweaters. Amazing dogs both. Diva is 11 years old, Boca is 10. Both purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, that we keep shaved bald...LOL

Great fun, low maintenance and they sleep about 18 hour a day. :)

Ruby the rescue dog...........10+ years old with congestive heart problems. A great dog!!! I hate to see her get old.
It is heartbreaking to lose a dog and seeing a good canine friend age is sad. Sure wish they would last us a bit longer. We just need to enjoy & appreciate each other's company while we can.

My last girl, Abby, was found outside my house on a rainy Nov night. She was all of 4 months old when someone discarded her.
German Shorthair Mix. She lived 14 great years before I had to put her down. Best damn dog and followed me like a shadow.
My new girl, Lucy, 4yr old Black English Lab, is the sweetest thing on 4 legs and another shadow.
My girlfriend has a 7 yr old Chihuahua, Mo, who is the craziest dog I've ever known, but is also a good hearted animal.
All our kids are grown, so the dogs get all the attention.
Sucks watching them get old.

Good thread! So many great best friends out there.

That's Daisy. She's our 13 year old friend, family member, trustee, alarm, child protection service, guard, and vacuum cleaner. Got her from a neighbor in the town we used to live in. Both her mother (Golden) and father (Irish Setter) were papered next door neighbors. Dad jumped the fence and we took one of nine. She's got a heart of gold, ideal instincts, and a single mean bone in her body that she reserves for any threat. Her favorite activity is going down to the Erie Canal, diving in and swimming after geese. They've got her number and all swim away from her keeping just far enough from being caught. After she does that for couple hundred yards they follow her all the way back. Like clockwork it is.

She's the last remaing of her litter. Hearing and kidney problems trouble her, but nothing a good meal and lot of attention can't keep at bay... For now. She's got three great cats that help to keep her active. Big holes in our hearts the day we say goodbye.
