I've decided a Super Ténéré is going to be my next bike and am looking for some help in finding a good deal on a new one from a dealer.

There have been some crazy good prices in the past on new '13s, but I'm looking for a '15 or '16. Leaning toward an ES, but will consider a standard if it's priced right.

I live in the Chicago area but am willing to travel, maybe even fly and buy, for the right deal.

What are you seeing out there?

Go to our For Sale section and there's a Gen2 (2015 iirc) with few miles and a heck of a good price.

Otherwise, go on CycleTrader.com for prices on new ones.

I am also in the Chicago area and just bought a new 2015 earlier in the summer.

I went with the guys at DuPage Yamaha in West Chicago. Good guys and got a good deal on a non ES.

I would recommend them. Other than that the used 2014 in the Rockford area in the For Sale section sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I have been been looking at Cycletrader, Craigslist, and EBay.

What's tricky is that prices listed don't always include fees and such, and sometimes ones that list just MSRP can be very very negotiable. So if anyone here has first hand knowledge on the good dealers it would be helpful.

I need to do some legwork of course, but was putting out feelers in case somebody knew of a dealer that had lots of inventory and was blowing them out. For example, several months ago someone here posted about Sehorn Yamaha in OK doing just that.

Terminus, thank you for feedback about DuPage Yamaha, I will check them out.

Bought mine from the "for sale" section here on this site. I looked all over and was willing to travel. Not only did I find the best dealio by far....you can look at previous posts to get an idea about the owner. I LOVE my bike! A good owner will be on this website to find the best information.
If you do the clutch basket and cam chain tensioner (which doesn't need to be done right away) ....Not too much difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 to make it worth paying more than $1k US. Exhaust to aftermarket and chip tuning will make a Gen 1 higher performing than stock Gen 2. These bikes have more than enough performance for anyone.

I've been in touch with one of the sales people at Hillview Power Sports, in a recent email this is the stock they have (copied directly from an email):

"Right now all I have is a 2015 red one for $11,754 OTD or a black 2016 for $12,354 OTD or anniversary 2016 for $12,774 OTD if one of these might work for you. All non-ES."

The prices quoted in the email look to be their current listed price plus $495 for freight and prep. There'll be a little extra to pay if you purchase from them I'm sure, probably Title and taxes.

They are located in Latrobe, PA (a little south east of Pittsburgh).

A little later this week I'm picking up a 2015 ES from a dealer in Canonsburg, PA (south of Pittsburgh). The price I'm paying is $12,899 (plus $495 freight/prep, $113 for title fees, and Tax & Registration when I bring the bike back to where I live in New Jersey).

You shouldn't have too much trouble purchasing a 15 or 16 at under 12.5k. My friend just bought a used 16 ES with 4k on the clock and side bags for 11.7k. I've found some cheaper than that but you have to be willing to jump on one. Love the bikes, but like any motorcycle they depreciate hard for the first owner and prices are depressed in the winter.

Keep in mind, if you buy out of state from a dealer, you'll have to pay local taxes on top of their OTD price. Buying a used personally owned bike saves you a bunch in IL, only $25.00 tax. Title/License is somewhere around $200. What town/county are you?

Not necessarily. I bought my 2012 new OTD from Yamaha Sportscenter in Longview Texas (represented here on the forum by lotecredneck) when I lived in Phoenix. I did not pay local tax, only paid it to the state of Arizona.

Depends on the county in Illinois. Cook county will take its cut, ~7.5%, The Illinois OP's county may vary. Point is: Do your research on local fees, and in Illinois there is a definite advantage to private sales.

My view is those who buy new take the greatest depreciation hit, especially those who don't end up hanging on to the bike for a while, for whatever reason. By all means buy what you are comfortable with, at a total price you are comfortable with.

While buying new allows you to farkle exactly how you want, you will again buy a higher price than used. While mine did not come with exactly all the farkles I would have done, I have grown to appreciate them all.
