I've been looking for a solo tent to do some motorcycle camping and this Eureka Spitfire 1 has caught my fancy. It's inexpensive and had some fairly good reviews. Any inmates ever used this tent before?

It's supposed to weigh in at a little over 3 lbs, which I think is great. The stakes and small vestibule seem to be the biggest complaints, but I'm not going to be backpacking much with it. I plan on having it in my Giant Loop Great Basin for some motorcycle camping mostly.

I've been looking at tents also. I don't have the one your looking at but have read about a few solo tents and bivey sacks.
I have decided to get a two man that is free standing. They are almost as light and I can put more gear inside and be comfortable.
You can pick up some nice tents on sale at REI or Cabela's , or many other outfitters. just sayin..

I have one of these

http://www.alpsmountaineering.com/alps/products/tents/lightweight-tents/mystique-1

actually not sure if it's a Mystique 1 or 1.5, I'd have to check. Nice lightweight one man tent, only been used a couple of times. BUT heading off on a loooonnngg trip soon, and would rather have the comfort factor of my Big Agnes 3 man. I yr interested I can do you a deal on the Alps - PM me...

Big Agnes, by most accounts I've seen, appears to be the real deal. If I'm ever in the market for another tent, I'll probably go with that. Combine that with their sleeping bag that has and integral thermal air mattress and you have tent nirvana! ::013::

Amazon and Campmor have this one for $89 or so, which is in my price range. It does look a lot like Dcstroms Alps tent. I try not to be a brand Nazi, but if something is good to me I tend to stay with it. Drive a Toyota truck, Yamaha motorcycles etc.

What two man tents are you looking at?

I have an Eureka! Apex XT 2 man tent that I bought 15 years ago ( 1997 or so) that has camped everywhere from the Ozarks, Berkshires, Appalachians, Rockies, and Cascades for me and the wifey. I've re-siliconed it twice and it's still as waterproof as the day I bought it. It hasn't spent a lot of time under the sun ( mostly shade and clouds) so it hasn't had a lot of UV damage.

Thinking of something smaller on the bike for me alone. Make room for an extra bottle of whisky or some else important.

That's exactly what I have ;D Big Agnes Lynx 3, BA 20 degree Tumble Mountain down bag, and an insulated BA air core mattress. Only thing is, I've been a bit cold at times (with temps in the 20's F) and not sure if it's the bag or the mattress. Anyway, taking a punt that more insulation in the mattress will do the trick, so bought an Exped Synmat. Have yet to try it, but hopefully it will work better than the Big Agnes. It should, for almost double the price.
