Any 2014 windscreen options?

I didn't have a first generation Super Tenere so the windshield setup on the 14's may be an improvement, and it looks good. But for me at 6' 3" it isn't quite enough. Just had my '14 for one day, but noticed quite a bit of wind knocking me around. If I tucked my head down about 6" all was calm. I did have the adjust to full height. I am wondering if anyone knows of any aftermarket options yet for a different screen or more adjustable bracket. In a few weeks I am going on a 2000 mile adventure... wish I could come up with something by then.
I guess there might be some add-on wings/lips, anyone have experience?

I have been waiting for someone to come out with a taller screen. I am 6'6" and I ride with no screen right now. No screen is so much better then the stock screen.

I have one of these on its way to me, should be here this week. I'm hoping the new curved shape, as on the stock screen, will work with this taller version. The stock screen is just a little too short for me. The previous OE tall screen (for the '12 & '13 model) was no better than the OE short screen, so we'll see.

I just added the MRA X-Screen to my 2014 ES factory windshield.Excellent product, love that you can adjust it down for around town and higher for highway riding. Haven't had a chance to use it much(Crappy rain),but so far I'm impressed. I will add a more thorough report once I have some miles on it. I am 6'1" and wasn't happy with buffeting from the stock shield. Also definitely add the wind deflectors, big improvement.

Scoobynut, would appreciate your comments when you receive and install the tall screen.

I am 184cm tall and with the Givi Airflow i had on my 2012 ST I had no buffeting or any other issues but with my 2014 ST I have alot of buffeting altough i have the OEM screen highest position, the seat at lowest positon. I am considering to order this tall screen but couldn't learn how much taller it is compared to the OEM short screen. Any idea how tall it is compared to the OEM short screen ?

Thanks...

Yigit, I don't know how much taller it is compared to the OEM screen, but will take some measurements of both in the highest and lowest position when I receive it. I'm 182cm and the stock screen works pretty well for me, but I find when I ride into a strong wind I get quite a bit more buffeting.

I am 6ft 4 and also have a buffeting problem. I traded my 13 for a 14ES and I am disappointed in the new windscreen. I am interested in hearing how the higher screen works out as well.
I am also not sure about the ES vs the 13s suspension. I am still breaking it in so I will have to wait and see.
Hey Bumbutter is that the MRA touring or sport x-screen? Have you had more time to try it?

Mine is an earlier model and I am 6'2". A year ago I fitted the MRA and it works a treat. So I can't see it being any less effective on the 14. (I have MRA's fitted on my other two bikes as well)

Kirbyb, Bought the MRA Touring X-screen. Went for a 200 km ride after work yesterday, 90% highway riding. Experimented quite a bit by stopping every 10-20 kms or so to change up the screen’s height and angle. Great product, I think there onto something… ::025::
Only a few kms with it, but it has helped tremendously with calming the air for me. Of course cross winds will still be a factor with turbulence, and helmet choice will also play a big part I am sure.
Using a Nolan 104 Modular and am pretty happy with sound levels. Able to actually listen to music thru the N-com B4 Plus unit. Speaking of, I also am using NoNoise Motorsport Noise Filtering Hearing ear plugs.
Highly recommend. http://www.motorcycleinnovations.ca/product_p/nn.motorsport.htm

Received my Yamaha tall screen for the 2014 yesterday and installed. As promised here is some of the technical info. and some photos.

Comparison of stock and tall Yamaha screens, lowest bracket setting. Tape measure heights - Stock-17-5/8"; Tall - 21-3/8". As you can see the tall screen is noticeably wider at the top, it now has an almost Parabellum shape to it (had one of those on my '12):

Side shot. The curvature of the taller screen is slightly different than the stock short screen and here they are laid over each other. The curvature on the upper part of the tall is less dramatic than on the short, but is still not as flat as a Parabellum, which I hope will work better (than the Parabellum) in the fierce side winds where I live. I will try to get a shot or two of the tall screen installed later today when I try to get out for a ride. I have a feeling this is going to work much better than the tall screen Yamaha offered for the '12s and '13s (had one of those too), but will give a full report once I'm able to put some miles on the new setup:

Some shots giving height comparisons in the lowest and highest bracket adjustment position, measured from the same point on the GPS bar:

Stock low screen, lowest setting, 5-3/4" from GPS bar to top of shield:

Tall screen, lowest setting, 9-1/2" from bar to top of shield:

Stock screen, highest setting, 8-1/8" from bar to top of shield:

Tall screen, highest setting, 11-5/8 from bar to top of sheild:

Still haven't had a chance to take a ride with the new screen, but took a few shots of it tonight. Shown in the low position:

I just tried the MRA spoiler on my '14 stock screen and it makes a big difference on the head, but I will try the tall screen (maybe with the MRA on it too) but now the part that is still bad is the shoulders/sides area, but I am wider than most. Waiting for the tall screen.

Anyone know if the the OEM side wind deflectors will work on the '14s? I may get some and try it.

Have you put any more miles on, just curious how it is working out?

Okay, a brief review of the OEM tall screen. As said above, rode about 1200 miles this weekend so plenty of time to get a feel for the new screen. I'm mostly comparing this to the 24' Parabellum/Wasp bracket set up I had on my 2012. Compared to the stock '14 screen, it's a definite improvement, similar airflow really, just more coverage. Just keep in mind your height, posture, build, seat height etc. are always the variables in these analyses. I'm 5'10", 200lbs with a 32' inseam, have a Corbin in the 'low' setting.

Tall screen in low setting: This one obviously allows the most airflow. Works great in calm air, due to the adjustable bracket putting lowest setting of screen at most severe angle which seems to flow air at sharper angle, but can be a little rough in strong winds (had plenty of those this weekend). Also allows the most bug strikes to most of the face shield of helmet. Best for calm days and hot weather. Probably best setting for fuel economy too.

Tall screen in 2nd lowest setting: Much as the lowest setting, but obviously flows a little less air, and fewer bugs striking shield, but you still get them. This setting still has the screen at a pretty severe angle, which, again, is good for quickly flipping the air over your head.

2nd highest setting: Probably used this the most. Gives ample quiet pocket (more on that later) and hardly any bugs to helmet screen, minimal tumbling back draft.

Highest setting: Only used this briefly on the interstate for around 100 miles, but it was very windy at the time so not sure this is a completely valid analysis. Seem to get some pushing at back of helmet from back pressure, possibly because screen is at most upright angle in this setting (again, due to bracket adjustment), but the high winds may have exacerbated this condition. Still haven't tried in calmer winds as there weren't really any to speak of during entire trip.

Overall noise/buffeting report. Noise in all settings is a fairly constant, fairly loud 'whooshing' noise, in the lowest settings from the clean air hitting mid/top of helmet, in the higher settings from I'd say back pressure passing over and swirling around very top/back of helmet. Again, it may be different in calmer conditions. I wear earplugs always so I was mostly just conscious of it, but not really annoyed by it. I was still getting a little helmet shake, I suppose you'd call it buffeting in all settings, but it's not an eyeball rattler like some screens are. To be fair, I would get the same with the Parabellum when it was windy out.

The clincher, and the reason I'm going to stick with the screen, at least for the foreseeable future, is that the bike seemed much more stable in heavy side and headwinds than the Parabellum/Wasp setup on my '12 -- the '14 bracket doesn't move the screen forward like the Wasp did, and the OEM tall screen for the '14 just isn't as large as the Parabellum was, which really did catch a lot of wind in windy conditions, to the point that I saw it as a real drawback to the setup on the '12. If you live in a calmer locale, you probably wouldn't be so concerned about it, but it is almost always very windy here, and I appreciate the added coverage of the new tall screen, but that it has no real stability disadvantage in the heavy winds. Just don't expect Goldwing levels of coverage and you probably won't be disappointed.

So, it works for me, but you all will in the end have to make your own educated decisions about the OEM tall screen.

Couple of photos from the weekend trip, a very enjoyable loop ride through the Black Hills, over to the Bighorns, back home through the Northern Cheyenne Indian reservation in Montana.

Thanks for this detailed report Scoobynut, it has helped me to decide to give one of these screens a try.

Well done sir.

Put another 300 kms on with the MRA x-screen. Really liking the results. Have fine tuned it for highway driving, keeps the direct air shot off my helmet. The x-screen is not in my line of site, but other riders might have different results depending on there height and posture. Buy the clamp and bolt on unit. Clamp it on at first to test run it. If you don't like, sell it here.
