Finally! I've been looking for a Tenere for over a year now. I've been riding a DR650 to work a few times a week for about 8 years and a desert trip every month or so. I decided I needed something that was better for touring, long distance traveling but could still handle the dirt. I looked at Vstroms, BMW, Tenere, and the Tiger. After about a year of research I determined I wanted a tenere.

Picked up a 2012 blue tenere in Las Vegas w/ 12,000 miles two weeks ago. The previous owner had heated grips, heated seat, crash bars, windshield, skid plate, yamaha boxes, rox rosers, powerlets, etc. Pretty loaded.

Pure bliss. I've taken it out quail hunting a few times already. I was a bit taken back by how 'rowdy' the engine is. I read once that the tenere engine sounds like a bag of rocks. This weekend I changed out all the fluids and put in some amsoil. Boy, did that make a difference. Way quieter, like night and day. Just plain excited for the longer distance adventures ahead and now I have to decide if I'm going to sell the DR.

I guess it does look like FPS shot!
I put in the Amsoil Metric 10w-40. Made a tremendous difference in sound and operation. I noticed the lack of 'rattle' in the engine noise immediately but yesterday was the first time riding it and it shifts so much smoother. Really quite remarkable. The oil that came out was definitely in need of a change and appeared to be dino oil. I was initially hesitant since the Amsoil is so much $$ but I thought I would give it a shot and see if it helped. So glad I did.
