Another battery problem.

I tried to search this and found a couple posts that touched on this, but didn't find a solution.
Just put a new Yuasa YTZ 12S battery in my 2012 S-10. Before hooking up, I looked at the battery terminal markings and realized I was about to connect the positive bike cable to the negative battery terminal.
The new battery is exactly like the one I took out the bike and is installed the same way: terminals to the left, with positive on top and negative on bottom. Cables won't reach if I put the battery in with terminals to the right.
The old battery must have been hooked up backwards! I don't know what to do.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you provide us a few pics??? 1st Gen batteries are oriented different than the current models. If I possible… return that battery for the 14 and get more CCA.

Have you put in the right way round? You can put it in wrong - the terminals are the right way up but you need the widest side facing out towards you. I initially fitted mine with the widest side facing forward - cables don’t reach and there’s space around the battery in the box. It can be fiddly getting in the correct way round with side bars. Hope some of that makes sense

Makes perfect sense, and I feel like an idiot. I figured it out myself while looking at the pictures. Came back to report and found your message. Thanks very much!.

This is a photo of a Yuasa YTZ 12S battery hooked up in a 2014 S10. I doubt that the battery orientation changed from 2012 to 2014.
Yup, that’s the same orientation as my 2015. I guess I would describe it as the “front” of the battery facing outward with terminals and “top” to the left, + at the bottom.

I second all of the above --- just had the exact same question. Couldn't for the life of me understand why my dealer had supplied me with a battery that had reversed terminals. Not for one second did it occur to me that it goes in "flatly" even though I was curious abouit the space next to it... I guess every now and then one needs to be told, and re-told, that one is an idiot, only barely coping, so that it doesn't show...
