Don't!

Seriously, under no circumstance. DO NOT BUY A TENERE!

Unless...

You like the idea of owning the World's Biggest Dirt Bike

That can take a fall, and keep ticking

Climb a mountain pass

Two-up

Load up for the long haul

And "make" the campsite

Or knock down 800 mile weekends with a top box and a tank bag

And even take a few curves

Really avoid this bike if you like making new friends

Or can't appreciate a sweet looking beast

And finally - if THIS is your idea of a real adventure - this bike's not for you...

Just save yourself all the brain-damaging research, and get that other bike you were looking at. I mean, obviously the Tenere is just too slow and heavy and whatever-else the rags have said about it.

And don't forget all the major problems the Tenere has been plagued with. Thousands of members here and four years on the market and look at this INSANE list of crazy problems we've had to deal with... All seven of them:

If I'm not mistaken, one of these actually interrupted a ride, until the vast dealer network was able to get a part to get the rider back on the road.

Nice. Yeah, I love my Tenere, too. Sometimes the urge just strikes to shout it from the roof tops. I understand. Nicely done. Please allow me to add a few more reasons.

Yes, the worlds biggest dirt bike can allow you to see, and more importantly, enjoy reaching sights unseen by other bikes.

Its ABS brakes will allow you control on muddy switchbacks without breaking a sweat.

You can enjoy finding out what is around the next corner, even if the results are 75 feel below and behind you.

And the views...don't forget the many different views you will see.

Of course if none of this appeals to you. Go grab a Starbucks and cross the Tenere off the list. It's alright, it's not for everyone.

I recognized a few of them Teneres. Ok, actually most of them. No doubt there are a lot of folks on Teneres using them to see the world. Probably one of the lowest poser ratio bikes on the market, if you think about it. And recently it seems to be enjoying a little uptick in new owners.
So this thread ain't talking anyone out of one. :)

Went to the local BMW dealership last night for a presentation by Rene Cormier who spent 4+ years riding around the world. Great show if he visits your area - don't miss it.

But the point is that I parked my mud splattered Big Blocked Super Tenere with scraped up Rumbux bars and broken plastics in line with a bunch of really nicely polished bavarian engineered two wheeled bike porn. With even with all that bling there at the BMW dealership and the typical crowd that such and event and locale would draw, it was my lowly Fancy that got a good chunk of the attention.

Oh I would have loved to have parked a couple of more used Teneres next to yours. Clicked a nice pic. And sent it to Yamaha.

I remember how grateful we all were to the Yamaha employees and sent them a poster to show our gratitude. I still feel that way!

Are these pictures of the road that would be unseen by any other bike than the Super Tenere?

Uhoh DD, you touched a non Tenere owners button.
Sometimes we forget the guests are here Mr. Jones. We aren't meaning to be rude. We just act like family.
DD has other bikes himself that can get him to where those pictures were taken. :)
