I have been usng Amsoil in my bikes and cars for a very long time.
I strongly believe that based on all the reviews and analysis, and my personal use, it is the best oil out there, period!
I change it at 12,000 miles or one year in my cars, and I like to put at least 10,000 miles on my bikes in between changes.
There have been times when I changed it at 8,000 miles or less than a year. I never experienced any symptoms as far as the shifting becoming clunky or any other issues at all.
In either case I use Amsoil oil filters.
Finally, how many miles do you guys go on the Tenere in between oil changes when using Amsoil?

I've been using Amsoil for years and I try and change at 6,000- 8,000km on the bike.

I have to admit that I cannot bring myself to extend my oil change intervals like that recommended by Amsoil or any other oil manufacturer. I tried an extended oil change with Amsoil on a Honda XL 650 and the top end wore out prematurely. That was quite a while back.

I now use Mobil 1 15w50 in my bikes and change it often. On the Tenere I change it about every 2500-3000 miles, or if the shifting gets notchy. I change it every 1000 miles on my DRZ 400, with the filter every other time.

I am probably "wasting" the cost, but I just don't care. Since motorcycles share the oil with the transmission and clutch, I am not comfortable going long on oil changes, Amsoil or not.

JMHO, YMMV,

This can get long with a statement like that.

Never used it myself, a friend of mine used it for a time in his Kawasaki and couldn't justify the cost and leaving his Oil filter on his bike for that long, I guess he could have replaced it between changes.
He also never had bad things to say about the performance in his bike using it, then I turned him on to Shell T6 5/40 Rotella.

I agree, oil type or brand should not determine periodicity of change. I'm following And will keep following Yamaha's recommendation with an oil change every 6000 km, even if I know European specs are requesting every 10,000 km.
Right now, my oil still gets dark pretty rapidly, and I use dino oil. Will switch to 10W50 Yamalube at the next change and may switch to 100% synth at 15 or 20,000 km. Then, I may extend the oil change from time to time when traveling but will stick with 6000 km the rest of the time. Oil change is a cheap insurance for long term engine shape.

Yamaha's recommendation is 10,000km/6000 Miles This is what my USA manual states.

Interesting. Both my 2012 and 2014 USA manuals say 4000 miles.
I stand corrected. The 2010 manual states 6000miles. 2012-2014 its 4000 miles. Interesting that they revised it from 2010 -2012. Wonder what changed.

Using mileage for oil changes, just like valve adjustments, on a motorcycle with a manual gearbox, and especially one that can be operated in a wide body of terrain, is only an arbitrary measurement. Since there is no way of measuring exactly how many revolutions a given engine has made with a given number of miles, picking a mileage for when to adjust valves, or when to change oil, is an educated "shot in the dark". I wouldn't worry too much about the descrepancies between one manual and another, but 4000mi between changes is a number I feel most comfortable with. I do however, change my filter every time.

Nothing changed. Any 2010 manual is for a European bike since the first US model was in 2012. Euro bikes have always been 10K kilometers and US bikes have always been 4K miles. Why the difference? No one knows for sure, but probably just different judgments by the respective importers about what is the best compromise between servicing costs and engine longevity. The competition may have something to do with it also.... BMW's have been 10K kilometers for some time now. And since dealers generally like shorter intervals for obvious reasons, perhaps the US dealers simply carry more clout in these decisions.

These sorts of differences just highlight that things like oil change intervals are not written in stone and are judgments. Which means you can use your own judgment to deviate a bit as well.

I don't use amsoil in the tenere simply because of the warranty you gotta prove oil changes every 4000 miles .In my Harley and gold wing every 5000 miles probably sooner than necessary but I sleep better at night knowing.
