Was able to work (what I think) is a great deal on the 2013 white S10. I can buy the bike for $12,600 with OEM bags and bash plate (that is out the door which includes 6% MI sales tax, tags and title). That said, I already have a 2012 S10 in the garage. However, I'm a sucker for a bargain and It would be great to have another S10 so my son (who has an FJR) can adventure ride with me from time to time. I'm relatively young (47) but I also justify the purchase by telling myself I won't be able to wear out two S10's in my lifetime because I only ride 10-12k miles a year. So, in theory, I'll be set to adventure for ... well forever.

I'm not asking you guys to solve this internal debate for me (I know only I can do that). I would like to have a philosophical fireside chat (pretend we have beer in our hands) talking about the pros and cons of the plan and whether the deal itself is good enough to be a motivator. Let's hear your sage ramblings.

At $12,600 out the door, you're getting the bike, equipped, for $11,800.
At $11,800 equipped (pre-tax), you're getting the bike for roughly $10,800 "base."

You're getting a heck of a deal; probably at dealer cost, +/- $100. Unless you buy pre-owned, I think you won't be lucky enough to find that deal again.

If you want the bike, I'd say go for it; what is there to lose? You know what you're getting, so there are no surprises or unknowns.

I would never try to build a case against acquiring a Tenere riding mate, especially your own son.
What could be better than ADVing with your own boy?
Superb plan. I toast it!

I think I'd buy a nice used FJR for a second bike.

Thanks for the input guys. Exactly what I'm looking for. Gee-Tee I already have a Concours C14 so we are set on the sport touring front. Just sold my FJR In January this year. Great bike for sure. For some reason my C14 speaks to me in a way the FJR didn't so the Connie stayed in the stable.

I've never regretted having two Teneres in the family. Not for one second.

Do it.

TCA, any price is a cheap price to spend that quality time with your son. Money well spent.

Snake and Tomato - my thinking exactly. Nothing better than that quality time. While I appreciate being able to ride the ST's together my interests have turned to secondary roads, two tracks and the road less travelled. For starters I imagine doing a tour of ghost towns and forgotten villages in Michigan's upper peninsula. Will continue the journey around Lake Superior through Canada.

I'm a "there is no free lunch" type of guy, so I'm having a hard time believing that you'll actually get the bike for that price OTD. I'd say if you can and you like the white, then go for it. At that price, you could probably sell it for the same or more in a short period.

John,

I already have my price quote (including detailed price break down) and scheduled delivery date. But I agree. It's a great deal. And I'm a big fan of the white to boot. Win-win.

I believe that the price is legit. Here in SoCal, you can get a 2012 or 2013 S10 for $12,000-12,500 out the door. Some of these dealerships have had these bikes for a year or two, and are paying flooring. If the dealership is wanting to move the bike, they will take a loss to move it. No doubt that's what is happening here, or is close to happening here. Regardless, I have no doubt its real. I just bought a similarly priced 2013 here in California...

Do you ride both or does someone else ride one of them?
Lowered the first one for my wife. I still ride both, but one is hers.

I switch back and forth riding a Concours and a Tenere also. Nice combination to have. I don't have sons, but if I did I would not hesitate to pull the trigger on the deal you got. As a previous poster replied, at that price you won't be out any money. If your son has an FJR, he should also enjoy going back and forth between the two bikes. Do it.

On a side note, it only takes me about a minute to adjust back to the Concours from the Tenere, but about an hour to get used to the Tenere after riding the Concours for any considerable time. My Concours has a heli-bar set up where I almost sit upright, and I just got the Rox risers on the Tenere which helps. Not trying to hijack, but do you notice any similarities in jumping back and forth from bikes?

MidlifeMotor,

I ride at the track now and again so the relatively aggressive position of the C14 is natural to me. I do enjoy the different characteristics of the two bikes and don't have too much trouble acclimating from one to the other.

I agree the deal is great. Always some (financial) downside when buying new; but it's nice to be able to limit how much.
