I have forwarded all the emails I had with my local distributor to Altrider. These emails were for two issues including the clearance issue (the other one related to some minor staining I had on the bars). Altrider responded to the staining but not the clearance issue. I then specifically asked if they had any comment on the clearance issue. That was on 18/2/13 and I have never received a response directly from Altrider to that email although it does appear that they forwarded my emails to the local distributor for follow up. As I said the local distributor has been great and I hope they can resolve the problem.

Thanks for the update on this. First I've heard. I have an equal 5/8 on both sides with no rubbing or issues taking of the battery panel. I do notice that sometimes the panel doesn't want to seat well. might want to give a thorough check.

Hey guys, a quick update on the Tenere crash bars. We made slight changes to the manufacturing so now no crash bars will have the fitment issue on the right hand side. If any of you have any unresolved issues with your bar fitment, shoot me a message here or email us at info@altrider.com.

Emailed Altrider two days ago and received a reply they are shipping me a new right side bar no questions just gave them my shipping address.
I asked also about the Splotchy staining on the stainless steel no response as of yet.
Now How cool is that? ::008::

Just had a look at mine. Right side much less clearance than left side. Gap on right is too small to even get a finger between
bar and plastic panel. No scuffing however...

Strange...my response indicated that the "...bars are designed and engineered with close tolerances..."

Just installed mine yesterday. There is about 1/4 inch between the bar and the side panel on the right hand side. Not a big deal I guess, since the side panel can be removed, and it doesn't touch. I tried removing the left side this afternoon, and wow, I'll have to try again when I'm not as tired, and have more patience. I tried for about 5 minutes, and gave up. From what I read, it's possible though. As long as I can move it far enough forward to get to the fuel tank bolts, and radiator cap, (which I can), then that's all I'm concerned with.

No problem here. On and off several times. Yea, it's a fiddle to get the angle right but not an issue.

Well down here in Australia my S10 has Alt Rider crash bars. I also have other AR products on the bike.. and they are well engineered.. but not their crash bars.

The RHS will not allow removal of the side cover without scrathcing the crap out of it.. I have to drop a towel down there to protect the silver paint on the cover as i literally drag it out.

The LHS cover will not come out at all without removing the crash bar.

Again using the "towel" method, I can move it around enough in situ to get at the tank release bolt.

I emailed AR and they assure me that the side covers (both) can be removed with the bars on.

Sorry AR.. that's pure BS.

The bars are a brilliant design but need another 13 mm clearance (1/2 inch) to allow the side covers to be removed.

And to provide more "crash space" for them to bend in a tipover without damaging the plastic on the bike.

I cannot recommend them at all and if i were starting out from scratch i would have chosen another brand.

A shame really as the idea of them is good.. but I do believe they have manufactiuring issues.

Cheers

I was thinking there are dozens of different bikes these bars are going on, and there is bound to be slight dimensional differences in the bodywork from bike to bike. Maybe it's not the fault of the Altrider bars at all, just variations in the bikes themselves. One person has 1/8 inch clearance, while another has 5/8 clearance. That's a lot, and hard to imagine that much variation when these bars are being built in the same jig. But I CAN imaging that much variation being in the bikes when you're talking about plastic bits and pieces. Just MHO.

How do these compare to your bikes? I don't want to be the guy whining publicly about a vendor, but te hope of a corrected bar then the radio silence from them has me disappointed. To me they're obviously our of whack.

I am working on this issue with Meghan at Altrider as I can't get the damn fan side off without scratching the panel, the problem is the bars are to close.
They may not look like it but in order to get the panel off you have to pull it away from the inner plastic frame afer removing the screws, by this point your hitting the bars.
I tried every way and it will not work, the bars are beautifully made but not designed around the Tenere's workings.
These are after market bars, the Yamaha is a mass produced strategically engineered Japanese motorcycle; I am betting my money that some of the bars are off measurements!
I have had SW Motech stuff that had some issues as well so no harm no foul it happens I am not going to hammer Altrider, just get the bars corrected by them.

Well if you get any sense out of AR.. please let us know.

My experience with emailing Ar is that they tell me that the side covers can be removed with their bars in place.

Quite simply.. they can't.

I would love to dump them and replace with something else.. but too expensive in these times to do that.

In the meantime.. i just tell new S10 owners to give the AR bars a swerve!

I get both sides off without scratching anything. The key to the fan side is to pull the bottom tabs out towards yourself and then pull the cover gently north-west so to speak. I don't know how many times you plan on removing the fan side cover, but you could also put some blue painters tape on the black plastic part to prevent any kind of markings while you get it out and in.
Altrider bars make awesome tire carriers as well! ::003::

528Hz,

Like your rig tried a few other tricks, no go!!
I can see this in a shop that charges by the hour..
Those happy trail bags on the sides how low do they sit on the bike and how do you like them?
