Are there any alternatives to the Altrider sidestand foot? Its like $70. Seems a bit pricey.

I went with the Touratech sidestand foot. Not much less, but it was $59 and is well designed. I was surprised when I received it and their were quite a few pieces to the design. Assembled without a hitch. Worked great on my last two adventures with not a second thought when placing it in soft sand and various terra firma.

I think Jaxon makes something that is item of beauty, or do what I did, sliced a hockey puck in half to reduced thickness and tapped the foot of the sidestand and attached said puck to the sidestand with recessed screws.

However with that being said, I WISH I could of only payed $70 for the foot, up here in Crazy Canucka land it was something like $130 CAD so ... stop complaining
This is actually not a terrible Idea. I used to find a flat rock or piece of wood when I arrived at a destination but if you squash a can really good and just toss it into a bag or something it can be quite useful!Spider said:Well, a beer can works. And it comes with a prize inside!

I really like the AltRider side stand plate. It's a design that doesn't interfere with the swing of the stand, but gives you the larger foot for soft ground.
That said, with the aluminum foot of your side stand, there are still alternatives in the do it yourself category. It will mean drilling into the stand so you can bolt something on. Find a plastics shop near you and ask for a piece of UHMW that is large enough for what you want. Typically they will give you scraps or sell you a small piece for a few dollars. It comes in white and black and is a fiber reinforced plastic that is very resistant to cracking and has self lubrication properties. It's commonly used for marine applications, as well as a common off road skid plate material among DIY guys. A 3/4" thick piece would work well, though thinner or thicker will be ok too, depending on how much rise you want/can tolerate. I don't think I'd go thinner than 3/8" just to keep it rigid. The same could be done with other rigid materials like aluminum or even wood. Shape the piece so it looks pleasing to you, spray some paint on it so it doesn't look bad, (or leave it bare in the case of the UHMW), and off you go.

Most motorcycle dealers will give away the pads that AvGeek showed. I keep one in my pocket.
For $1.41 at most hardware stores, you can get a metal electric outlet cover to keep in your jacket or tank bag. Tie a string to it and it's easier to pick up.
When needing something quick, I'll occasionally just drop a glove and put the side stand on that.

I have Jaxon's. Simple to install and decent looking. I did notice it's the first thing to touch down when leaning hard into a left-hander. So now I have a customized shape ;D

I made a 2014 side stand "big foot" by copying the size of the Touratech on my 2013 S10........ugly, but works fine using plastic cutting board material. Cost $10.00 to buy a new cutting board.
