I think Rod (COrider), may have mentioned something about that?
At the Whitehorse Rally I mentioned it might be good to have our 2013 event in Colorado. Lots of good roads out this way and plenty of beautiful scenery (as long as you stay west of I-25).

I'm up for Alaska summer 2013. If the dates get decided early enough, I might even have a shot of making it this year! :)

Depending on how far north you plan to go, you better hurry if you're thinking about making it this year.

Not going back so soon, but 5 weeks/11k miles was a pleasant pace this year, as a certified Butter Butt rider!

:D I should have written "this time". You are right - the weather window for this year is closing quickly!

While others were riding to Whitehorse, we flew to Anchorage and rented the first 2 weeks of July (with my dad and brother). Great time!! In doing the research, we were told August is the rainy season. For us, the weather was pretty near perfect - high 50's to low 70's with very little rain. The wind was pretty brutal from time to time, but thats the nature of the beast. I did not have heated gear and was warm/dry the whole time.

Wish I could go next summer, but I'm still paying for this year's trip. Nothing is cheap in Alaska. Plus, I think my better half would take more than half if I even suggested going back this soon. ::025::

Currently working on plans to do the Dempster, Dalton, Telegraph Creek and other points North next summer. At this time looks like we (one other S10) should be leaving the thrid week of June. Let's see what develops. ::001::

Rod, how does this look http://goo.gl/maps/eiF3x E through K will be tougher than A through C and I don't drink when I ride.

What other CO passes can be ridden?

All I can say is, Alaska trip is a LOT of miles no matter how you slice it. I made it in 3 weeks with couple down days in White Horse sitting out the rain, camped most of the way in camping areas/koa. That is about 550 miles a day average, and spent like $2200, which is pretty frugal I think. I passed numerous places you could spend several days doing stuff.

I believe you are on the best bike out there for this trip. I pushed through when it was raining for the most part, but did get socked in several days. 43f was my coldest day in rain just across the border of Alaska when returning to White Horse.

No sign of Todd and the "Gold Rush" boys anywhere?

Tiger,
Thanks for some useful info.... Todd's playing South America now... :D

I think the idea of the Super Tenere "group meet" in Colorado is an AWESOME idea.. Its centrally located for many more people to attend. The whole idea is to hang out and ride with ST owners and people off the forum.. If the meet is more central US, Ill be there 100%.

If work holds me back from going to AK, im going to go do a loop of AZ,UT,CO,NM......

I would agree that a Colordao meet would draw more people. Those of us that cannot take as much time could hop over from Texas to a centrally located state such as Colorado and have a great time. I would be in. Plus Butler Maps has alot great suggested routes and rides on and off the pavement there as well.

Time schedule or open end? Budget, or unlimited $? Camping every night or motel? X# of miles per day or slow putt?

Did 3 riders to Prudhoe Bay in 2005. We made it from Spokane, WA to Prudhoe (Deadhorse) and doubled back to Anchoarge then caught the inland passage ferry to Seattle (Bellingham, actually) and highway
d back to Spokane. 3 KLR 650s, 15 days block to block and we did push hard. The sights were beyond description and we stayed wet a lot (end of June, early July). Only the last 440 miles is gravel/broken ashpalt (Dalton Hwy). All the rest was pretty well paved (there were miles of construction which still was dirt/mud/gravel along the ALCAN too). We rode in ice-fog at 29F and hit 101F on the way back (in Ellensburg, WA). I have a real "Polar Bear" certificate though .. swam in the arctic Ocean at 32F air and 31F water. Yeah, it was chilly :). I would indeed do it again and have actually began the early planning for 2014. Not sure if I could do it this coming summer, but it's hard to resist. From Spokane, it's about 830 miles to "Mile 0" of the ALCAN then about 1,500 more to Fairbanks and 500 more to Deadhorse. (I think). We rode the ferry back from Haines, AK and it took 3 days to get down the inside passage to Bellingham. Add about 1,020 extra miles from Denver. We had no trouble finding fuel, except for the very last leg from Coldfoot to Deadhorse which is a 240 mile stretch http://travel.webshots.com/photo/1392043142071828300asjtZG?vhost=travel without anything ... at all ...

Mt Evans is always a good ride (except in the snow). It closes Labor Day each year. Pikes Peak is neat if you've never been there. It is now paved all the way up. Better to avoid I-25 if possible. As I said before - lots of rides out this way. All the way along the mountain range.

Myself and another guy will be setting up a STOC event in the September timeframe in Colorado and perhaps it could be a combined gathering with the Tenere folks...

I don't want to hijack this thread as it was intended to check interest on AK for 2013, but if Colorado is an option for our next "gathering", I'm certainly game!!

Add another vote for Colorado, we will definitively get far more ST's there vs AK/Yukon and this will allow Ténérist living far away to come too. The on and off-riding is awesome there too. The local BMW group is holding their rally in Paonia http://www.coloradobeemers.org/content/view/2/25/
usually mid july every year. It usually get 1000 ADV riders in total and 400 of coming on non-BMW bikes so we would fit just fine. Paonia is well known for being of the nicest ADV rally in the US, ask anyone who has been there... The event takes place in a huge public park downtown, most people camp there. An area is reserved for vendors and food/liquor is available. Music stage in the evening etc... just another option with far less coordination required as the local crew will take care of everything...

I'm up for a Colorado ride. It's my old stomping grounds (Longmont). Maybe this would warrant a separate thread? I know there's an organized Iron Butt ride around that time http://www.ironbutt.com/national/ too but I'm not sure exactly when that occurs in 2013.

Leaving Maine about June 24, 2013. Going to do as much as possible via the Trans Canadian Trail (TCAT). Hope to reach Fairbanks sometime around the 10th of July and spend a week or so
doing "the loop" and then head back down and return to Maine thru the southwest. Hope to see some of you there.

Wish I could join you, but it's just not in the cards for '13. I will be doing a Virginia to Deadhorse run in '14 tho.
