Fitted my Akrapovic.

As expected with metal to metal contact without any form of graphite seal or paste at the link to header pipe it blows gasses out this join.

This is a premium exhaust and a premium price so am disappointed that a little more thought has not gone into it by the designers.

The stock Yamaha exhaust has a lovely thick graphite seal but unfortunatelythis cant be left on as the Akrapovic pipes bore is not wide enough to fit over it.

My only option now is to use exhaust paste before reassembly.

Did it come with a clamp for that lower joint?

Is there a gasket on the connecting part of the Cat? I replaced the headers on a 2012 about 20 months ago and can't remember if there was a gasket.

Getting ready to install a Akrapovic on my 2015 ES and don't want to any problems.

Don, can you remember if there was a gasket?

This has got me thinking....I fitted an Akra pipe to mine last month and didn't use the OEM gasket, it's on this basis that I said in another post that no gasket is required.

However it does seem odd that no gasket is provided or used as this would enhance the connection at this joint..I have checked both I.D and O.D sizes with a vernier and all seems to be matching without a gasket (hope that makes sense)

I simply tightened up my Akra onto the header and all is fine....I'll be double checking now

Tomatocity..I don't think you will have any issues with the Akra

I would recommend a smear of exhaust sealer around the joint before assembly such as Holts fire gum for piece of mind.
The exhaust can easily be removed again after using this stuff at a later date when necessary. Just clean up and reapply.
As this is the hottest part of the pipe, silicon would not be suitable.

I was thinking that right after I said it. The cat discharge could be six-seven hundred degrees.
