Decided to instal a new OEM air filter and do the throttle body sync today. Holy crap. No less than 10 bolts holding on the air box cover. Don't forget the one in the middle under the rubber plug. Installed the new filter and buttoned her back up. The clear throttle body overflow cap was full of fuel. Love the way the tank just flips up easy peasey. Warmed her up good and hot. Proceeded with the TB sync with my new Harmonizer. Very cool unit. Backed off 3/4 turn on the painted jet and only had to turn out the other jet about 1/2 turn to get it perfect at idle. Was going to check the valves but decided to hold off till I get the 40,000kms on the clock. Only have 21,000kms so far, so a ways to go. Now what'll I do for the rest of the winter???? ::001::

Well, you could pull the forks and rebuild, check swing arm and final drive for play and grease. Flush the brake and clutch.
That would keep ya busy for awhile. ::025::

Greg/Cam .Not sure about the CO2 mod. Doesn't seem to be any great benefit from what I have read on this site. Let me know when you want your throttle bodies synced. Maybe we could have a bike nite. Done the Clutch Switch Mod ages ago and so far that has been the best cheap mod out there. Real seat of the pants extra power in the lower RPMs in the 1st 3 gears. Didn't pull the plugs cause they last forever. I'm getting over 55mpg riding aggresively, so the plugs are fine. Forks are done. New Rear Anakee 2. Spokes are all good. Wheels are balanced. Guess I could grease the swing arm and front triple clamps. Bike works so darn well. Why mess with sucess? ::26::

True true, I checked my plugs since I wanted to
Be sure she's burning right, they were all
Light brown, so good there.
Steering head bearings are good?
No rush for the sync for me, I did mine a while
Ago.
The co mod I did by dimly grounding a fuse
Block to the co wire under the seat. When
I need to change the settings, the fuse is
Accessible under the main seat, install fuse,
Do co adj, remove fuse.
On the books this winter, clutch switch mod,
True rear wheel, while the rear end is off
I'll grease the drive, might need a hand
With the throttle sync. Maybe you can swing by
When I'm doing cams front forks..

I'll see if I can get some ice-studs installed on the rear tire and replace the front wheel with a ski-assembly. That way I should be able to Teneremoblie over to your house......

Alternately, I do have a heated, attached garage full of beer/tools/music....

No problemo. Can do both locations. Cam's place is in the Bahamas, right? Next week is bad till after the 27th but anytime after that. This week is good though. Get Cam to call me. ::001::

Do the Shims, my dealer tells me you have to drop the engine as there is not enough play to remove the rocker cover, they reckon 4 hours work just to get to them and re-assemble without checking / adjusting them and reckon the tappet service will be 6-7 hours

May have to trade it in at 23,000 miles :)

Rasher!
Is that the whole truth and nothing but the truth about droping the engine for a valve adjust? Find that hard to believe. Looks like the valve cover should slide foreward by removing the top engine mount bracket.
Someone must have done a valve adjust by now. Please pipe up!!!

the spark plugs are very tough to get out, especially the right one, but I don't see why you would have to drop the engine to get to the valves.
yamaha did a bang up job designing this bike, pretty sure he's egging you on.

Or trying to line me up for a £600 bill for a few hours work and a can of oil.

Will be out of warranty by then and I will take it to my local independant with a copy of the Yamaha manual, they charge half the hourly rate, will only bill me for the time taken and I know they will actually do the work rather than change the oil and leave the bike round back for 5 hours to justify the huge bill, sadly an all too common occurence in the UK, I have caught out a few dealers over the years, as have many of my mates....

Brake Calipers falling off on way home (BMW Dealer)

Oil FIlter not replaced (Same BMW dealer, the guy had marked it)

Airbox full of crap after supposed full (inc tappets) service - took it to an indie who confirmed they had not been done as he changed 12 of the 16 tappets (This was grey import dealer who did this work, they had gone bust so I could not take up the issue with them)

Sump plug loose (oil dripping) on a mates FZR600 after first service, he got home and on his drive we noticed oil leaking, the bolt was really wobbly, on the last couple of threads, if he lived a mile or two further away he would have had a sump full of oil on his rear tyre.

Well nut dropped pushed into intake side of airbox, mech replaced nut but left old one rattling around in airbox where it could have jumped into motor at any point (Think Alpine hairpin with 1000ft drop) Dealer was entirely unconcerned after I found it and went to complain (Main Kawasaki dealer)

Another mate had a tyre dealer leave his rear caliper loose, another lucky escape, but took paint of wheel and swingarm.

There are some mobile mechanics around as well, I like them as you can get them doing the work at your home, get on with your housework / gardening / read a book / watch a movie and just pop out to offer a cuppa (see what they're up too) every hour or so.

I've had my valves checked twice so far (once at 27.5k miles, and again at 52k miles); both times the entire process, including the 26k interval service items, took 3.8 hours. I was with the bike the entire time and can assure you that the engine stayed where it belongs, and that the work was performed! There is sufficient room to remove the rocker cover even if you do not have access to a double-jointed midget mechanic. No adjustments were needed at either valve check interval, though I anticipate needing an exhaust valve adjustment at the 78k mile interval.
