Further Update 3/13/12:
I sent ATX an email yesterday explaining my issue and I attached the picture showing the problem.
This morning I received a call from a nice lady interested in my problem, and like those of you that have the same helmet, she is mystified as, "this has never happened before" Of course the fact that I attached my Scala G4 base to the helmet will make the helmet non-returnable (I get it, my fault). She did offer to send me another shield to try, though I am not holding out much hope.
Overall I give ATX high marks for getting back to me in less than 24hours with a human that was empowered to help solve the problem.
I like the helmet and hope somehow this new shield solves the issue. Stay tuned.
The company sent me a new shield as promised within about 4 days. I installed the new shield and it is better. It sits closer to the seal on the helmet but still does not seal. I haven't seen anyone else with this issue yet so I chalk it up to a "one off" issue.
The reason I bought this helmet was that I wanted to have a visor to block the sun when riding west into the sun in the evenings. The visor is so high on this helmet that it really doesn't serve the purpose I was looking for.
However I have since found a sun visor that fits against the inside of the shield on my Shoei and is exactly what I was looking for. It cost $16 but I have since read on WebBikeWorld that others have bought sun blocking film and cut it to fit for much less. It is about an inch and a half that sits slightly above my field of vision and allows me to tilt my head slightly to block the sun almost until sundown as you can see through it.
