Not associated with the vendor at all, just trying to let people know about a great deal. I have this helmet and love it. This is a great deal.

LINK HAS NOW BEEN REMOVED. PRICE BACK UP TO $121 ::021::

Re: AFX-39 DS Helmet $86 !!

I bought one of these (for more than this ::002::) and wondered if you found the same issue with it as I do on mine. I have an XL. The face shield does not seal against the rubber seal on the helmet. This makes for a fairly noisy helmet and I worry whether it will be very waterproof. I loosened the side bolts and retightened them to see if it was an alignment issue but this did not make it better. Do I just chalk it up to "getting what I paid for" or have you had a different experience? Thanks.

I have a XL as well. The chin strap is about 6 inches too long, but otherwise it's great. I think there is something wrong there. My faceshield seals fine.

I have one of these as well and love it. It's the best $300 helmet you can buy for less than $100. Great deal.

Do you have a problem with the seal like Freebird? :question:

No mine seals up nicely, I ride frequently in pouring rain with no leaking. The helmet also vents very well. The only down side is it is a bit noisy, but I always wear ear plugs so no issue. I also have an AFX 37 and the 39 is light years ahead of its predecessor in terms of function, fit and styling. At $89 bucks a pop I'm going to order another one.

This is the view with the visor removed and looking down from the top of the helmet. No where near a seal that would keep water out. I am going to call AFX today and see how their customer service is. I hope they can just send me a new shield that will fix the problem because I already installed my Scala G4 mount permanently to the helmet. Lesson learned.

Yeah you have a definite problem there. Mine has a 1/8" black lip that seals up against the visor. I would definately give AFX or your vendor a shout.

I've got a 37 model...Did they fix the shield distortion that was common on the 37?

They must have as I do not notice any distortion. WebBikeWorld review of the 39, I believe, indicated the same.

From the BikeBandit Web site

-Optically correct shield that is compound-curved, scratch-resistant and protects against UV-rays
It is optically correct in my experience as well.

I've been wearing one for a week.

Pros:
* Good fit on my average, oval, small/medium sized noggin (med sz helmet)
* huge field of vision
* invisible shield
* cool looks. The Blue Strike model is a nice match with the Impact Blue bike
* low price

Cons:
* weird buzzy vibration on the Super Tenere. My HJC IS16, Shoei TRZ, & Fly MX w/goggles helmet are normal. In clean air, standing or on my WR250R, there is no buzzy vibration.
* beware if glasses you wear. There is no good cutout in the cheek padding to accommodate glasses. You can wear glasses but the fit is not great.
* $100 helmet quality

Maybe I need a different windscreen?

update:
Today I mounted my tank bag, a Wolfman Expedition. In the past I have noticed that a tank bag disrupts the turbulence behind the wind screen. This helped a little, nowhere near as quite as a clean airstream. A slight improvement, as was lowering the wind screen from the high to the low position.

Update:

I sent ATX an email yesterday explaining my issue and I attached the picture showing the problem.

This morning I received a call from a nice lady interested in my problem, and like those of you that have the same helmet, she is mystified as, "this has never happened before" Of course the fact that I attached my Scala G4 base to the helmet will make the helmet non-returnable (I get it, my fault). She did offer to send me another shield to try, though I am not holding out much hope.

Overall I give ATX high marks for getting back to me in less than 24hours with a human that was empowered to help solve the problem.

I like the helmet and hope somehow this new shield solves the issue. Stay tuned.
