Could someone help me out? What aftermarket exhaust works with the Hepko Becker "Lock-It" racks.
Technically any exhaust should work with the rack, as the aftermarket units do not vary much from the stock dimmensions, except weight. You will easily shave 8-10 LB off the stock can.
I have GIVI quick remove racks, i'm currently running a GPR Exhaust with no issues (soon for sale, Camshaft has dibs), it will be getting replaced with a two brothers pipe ::014::
Can't wait

LeoVince's will NOT work with the exhaust side, the can is much longer and the middle strut would have to go thru the CF endcap via the wheel well, impossible.

Personally, since the wife and I only go on one or 2 full-up trips a year, I will swap out back in the stock muff..... My 52 liter topcase and yami tank bag or more then enough for me goin solo.

or you could

or get a sw-motech Quick-Lock Evo Sidecarrier exhaust side-rack mounts fully around the can perimeter and inner-brace between the two side mounts around the back fender via the license plate holder bracket.

check out the pics easier then tryin to put to words.........

Greg the Pole I swear I've looked at every aftermarket exhaust picture online and they're all significantly longer than the stock exhaust which would run right into the cross bar that connects the racks under the rear fender. I'm trying obviously to avoid buying new racks. don't know what to do.

Which version of the Hepko Becker racks do you have? Hepko Becker did a revision about a year ago to clear aftermarket exhausts.

I have the original version. Not much room for an aftermarket can:

I also have the same version as in the pic.

I wonder if HB has an upgrade kit for folks that have the initial version? Cant hurt to ask.....

Yep those are the same ones I have. I sent Roger an email about 3 weeks ago, and the following was his response (which I kinda don't believe as I swear I read a thread somewhere about him making a bracket or mount form someone to alleviate this problem) and of course my response to his, of which I haven't heard back yet:

Hey Roger,

Hope all is well. I bought your cases about a year ago for my 2012 Tenere, as well as the Hepko Becker racks and was wondering... Do you know which or if after market slip-on exhausts will work with the racks? I have the feeling their may not be enough clearance on the exhaust side obviously, or that the crossmember may get in the way. I am hoping that you've seen the Hepko racks on a Tenere with a slip--on exhaust, and could tell me which exhaust it was.

Thanks for your time,

Hi Seth,

I’ve not heard of any issues with aftermarket exhausts on this bike. As long as it is not a larger diameter or longer then it should be fine.

Roger,

So what you're saying is that aftermarket exhausts, which on the Super Tenere, are all larger than stock pipe, will fit with the Hepko Becker Lock-It racks?

His response:

HI Seth,

Actually I meant that anything significantly larger than the stock pipe will probably not work. I’m sure there are some that work fine, I just don’t know which ones. A search of the online forums may reveal something.

Which I take to mean as .... "You're screwed bud".
I can swap off HB exhaust side bracket and replace with washer, remove the heatshield, swap to stock pipe and reinstall the HB bracket/sidemounts/heatshield in under 30 minutes.....

get over it or spend another 3-bones if you cant....... ::021::

Thats the problem bonzer, I should have thought about the aftermarket exhaust when I bought the racks, but I "assumed" those making the brackets would have thought of that for me. I don't want to be swapping out pipes and shields every time I need to use my cases. I'm probably not as mechanically inclined as you are either. Thanks for your advice though.

That's really odd that they never took this into account.
Once my two brothers shows, I will measure it vs the gPr pipe and stock pipe.
Might even snap a few pics of the gpr on the bike

A shorter muffler would work. There isn't much room between the stock muffler and the mounting bracket.

Roger at Caribou did do some "custom" work on my Hepko Becker racks. The cross brace in my kit wasn't threaded. I must have had the last old style rack in his inventory. He said he couldn't get a replacement part for the rack, and the "new" HB racks were months out still. Roger didn't explain the difference between the new style and old style, and I doubt last year he even knew what the difference was. I sent back the cross brace and it was threaded and returned.

I bought the new style Hepko racks from Roger in May so he does know the difference. The cross brace runs between the rear fender and the license plate. I don't see an easy way to retofit.

I feel your pain dude, all I'm tryin to say is that there is a workaround and if you installed your rack and pipe your plenty inclined, suks-yes, hassle-yes, but realistically I didnt think I would be changing the can, my bad......

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm kinda new to this site / forum stuff so I appreciate your help. Greg if you could measure that pipe I'd appreciate it and send me a message somehow through this site (a pm i guess?). I think right now, if I don't want to buy the new racks, is to wait and see if someone comes out with a shorter pipe.

Thanks again.

here are the pics and measurments of my GPR pipe. racks are GIVI removable.
The gpr can is 16", can with turn down tip 18.5".
not sure how long the two brothers will be, will find out soon enough ???
As you can see in the pics, I was smart, and decided to run it without a baffle....my turn sig. is slightly droopy now ::007:: still works though.
Once I have the two brothers, i'll do a comparo both in noise and size of both pipes
