I agree 100%. Last month while waiting for the ferry from Roscoff to Cork, there were 15 motorcycles, including myself, waiting to board. Needless to say the majority were on BMs with a couple of Africa Twins and a few sports bikes. There followed the usual tongue wag and tyre kicking. 3 of the BM riders asked , after looking at my Tenere "what make was it" The Yamaha emblem is hidden by the tank harness and bag. Next question was "what model and engine size" followed by "is it an in-line 4". I have to ask myself "What planet"or "What make of horse blinkers"

Put a shaft on it and I am in. Dct here I come :) Or Yamaha make a new Tenere keep the shaft and add the Dct, and give us some more Horse power. And if that’s asking too much, well please keep, or improve our gas milage.

Like my Tenere but have always believed that Yamaha would have sold way more of them if they simply painted them different.
Overall I am a Honda fan and if I was buying a new adventure bike today it would most likely be a Honda AFrica Twin DCT.
Supposedly Honda is coming out with a smaller version and I’m definitely looking forward to what that might be like. At my age 68 everything is definitely seeming to get a little heavier than it used to be !
The nearest BMW dealer is 150+ miles away so it’s pretty unlikely I will ever own a BMW.

Users are more than happy with the new AT 2024, especially for not being influenced by the competition. Same power, a little more torque,…”but”…19 tire at the front. It seemed like a success to everyone. And with respect to power, they think it's good. more than enough….

I think the 19" front tire is a great move. The AT has always been on my radar even more so now. Having owned a 160hp Super Adventure and a 105hp Adventure at the same time I for one think 100hp is more than enough. So much so I sold the SA. The '24 AT has new upper bodywork too aimed at reducing turbulence on the rider. Sort of wish they went to forged wheels at the same time as the 19" front.

If I could have ordered the new 2024 AT base model (21/18) with ES, I would have been first in line. Too bad Honda stopped selling them in the US in 2022, and there is no sign they will bring the new '24 model stateside any time soon.

Agree about a good move with the 19” front, and tubeless. Was a little surprised at the 18” rear though. Good fuel capacity, decent horsepower and 20kg less than the Super Tenere, all sounds promising, especially in that black colour scheme.

this is my 20 AT with DCT loaded for Romney last year. My take on the comparison between ST vs AT boils down to the front wheel. The 21” AT front makes it more at home in the rougher off pavement stuff. It feels more dirt bike ish than the ST. Really fun to rip off pavement. The ST feels much better to aggressive ride twisties and in my opinion the ST also has a tad better wind protection. The shaft vs chain debate is way down the list for me. Modern chains are reliable and easy to maintain also easy to find replacement out on road. Never had issues with chains and saves weight. One dislike of the AT is the slow TFT start up and time it takes to turn off all nanny programs. I’ve installed the LSK off road dongle which is plug and play. It speeds up the start up and by pushing the star button it turns off TC/ABS and wheelie controls. This was my biggest gripe with bike the dongle solved that. I feel the 24 AT will be the best AT yet. The 19” will help it carve like the ST but not lose enough off pavement. Not sure if Honda listened to complaints about busy menu and slow start up but the LSK dongle will solve that. I loved my ST but in my opinion Yamaha didn’t innovate like Honda and KTM has.

I have no idea if the '24 will be available here. Sure hope so. When KTM made significant changes to the 1290 Super Adventure they did not import the new bike here for a year to let dealer inventory of the older model sell down. I think there was no '21 here only in Europe. Maybe Honda did the same thing by not bringing the '23 here? I think it's actually smart for manufacturers to not keep bringing in bikes when there is already a surplus of previous year models still sitting on dealers floors.

I think Honda was also clearing the path for the TransAlp. My guess is 2025 at the earliest before the AT makes a comeback in the States.
