Adding Strap Fixings to OEM Panniers

I seem to be in a minority, but I like my OEM panniers.

However, as with most ADV riders, I have to farkle with the shiny things.....

I am using LOMO dry bags which are a perfect size for siting along the top pf the panniers. But strapping them on to the top of the panniers isn't, as you would expect, too easy.

So I would like to fit some wee strap mounting points.

I have tried various search descriptions, but haven't been able to find exactly what I am looking for. Even though they are fitted to numerous other manufacturers panniers.

How to describe them, square base to rivet onto pannier, triangular sides at the top of which a round bar runs side to side. Looking for these in alloy or stainless. Fitting them should be fairly straight forward - if I can source them.

An example can be seen fitted to the Givi Trekker Outback panniers.

Any one able to point me in the right direction for a supplier, either side of the pond would be good.

Many thanks

I had seen these but was a bit dubious as to whether or not they would be strong enough with just two fixing points to each loop.

Dry bag may contain minging clothes, sleeping bag or tent. Would they be strong enough, not a lot of weight in any of those?

Thanks for the replies.

You can get them at most store and boating supply places. Make sure to get stainless or bronze hardware to avoid rust.

No need to worry they are very strong as a lot of my ridding is fully loaded with camping gear off road.

I'd be more concerned with putting excess loads on the OEM panniers actually. They're basically just plastic with plastic latches.

I had considered that Jeff.

I'm going to pack the stainless bolts and the holes with silicon to prevent the worst water ingress. But I have some leftover checker plate which I intend to use as backing plates behind each fixing loop.

I only intend putting two 20 litre dry bags with lightweight contents onto fixings. Bulky stuff like my sleeping bag and clothes.

A bit of common sense and restraint and I should be fine. I hope!!!

Although I still have two cavernous G+G alloy panniers from my old bike, but prefer the fit and width of the OEM.

The joys of transatlantic translation!!!!!

Footman loops nice and cheap in USA but to get them shipped to UK is extortionate!!!

But with a bit of digging about t'interwebbymabob I have found very similar in uk.

Stainless steel "webbing bridge" for 25 or 50mm straps.

Dogs danglies at £7.50 for 5 delivered.

Sorted.

Slainte mhor!

Just some small washers. Plan out where you drill the holes but you will still need to remove a small amount of the plastic ribs on the underside (Dremel tool works great for this). I've carried a tent, sleeping bag, and ground pad on these...no problems after many miles.

Stainless footman loops with a dab of silicone sealant works great for me, too.
Been wanting to do this for way too long. What size are the footman loops?

I'm not sure of the measuring points for these. The order (from E-Bay) lists them as 1 1/2"). That's about the length of the top "strap section" of the loop. The overall length is 3 1/8th inches.
