For those of you running this combo I'd like to know how you mounted the forward engine tabs on the crash bars...behind or in front of the skid plate and/or did you replace the spacers for the skid plate with the tabs of the crash bars? Pictures would be great appreciated as well. Thanks in advance for any input! Happy Trails To All!

There is another thread where this has been covered.

You should mount the cresh bars first, then the spacers, then the skid plate. Skid plate on the outside to make it easier to loosen the skid plate to do an oil change.
I think the thread was talking about Givi crash bars but I imagine the issue is the same.

Many have created a stud instead of using the supplied bolt. Screw stud into engine (with some locktite), thencrash bars, then washer and nut (whick act as the spacer), then skidplate, then another washer and nut.

This way you can remove the outer nut to get the skidplate off for oil changes without having to fiddle with the crash bars.

Only problem with this is finding the stud. It's a 12mmx1.25 and you need like 67mm of thread. Hard to find a bolt that long fully threaded in that fine thread pitch.

Thanks for the reply. I did see the Givi/ACD combo page, but didn't know if there would be a difference between that and Alt Rider combo with ACD. Good idea about the stud...I'll have track down the proper hardware.

Thanks again!

If you are handy with a tap and dye set (I'm not), Greg's suggestion gives you more options.
damn easy. Granted Tomato's route is easier.

I bought some 8.8 grade 70mm bolts, with the threaded protion only being about 35mm. I simply slapped the m12 1.25 dye on there, and put lots of oil on, easy peasy all the way to the end. Hacked off the head, cleaned it up, and ran my dye all the way to the end to clean up the end of the stud.
$15 for 4 bolts, lock and flat washer, nylon nuts, and two dyes in case one broke ::015::

I'll install my plate once I'm back from california with all my goodies. Kmac, thanks for gathering the parts for me :D

kmac picked up some threaded rod from one of his wholesalers. 3 feet of it. Plenty to go around.

Home Depot was not my idea. Read it in the other thread.

Went to HD and found the bolts and nuts but can't find the washer's and Nylok's (M12). Checking with a local fastener business to see what they have. I know I can get the zinc coated washers at a local hardware store but that is all they have.

A friend, Don, flies for Jet Blue and was able to get a 30 hour layover so Sunday I decided to take (driving an S10... Chevy truck that is) him to some favorite places in this area. We went to breakfast at Putah Creek Cafe in Winters CA. Afterwards went for a walk in this smaller city. A few doors down was a hardware store. I almost walked past it, twice. Went inside and asked if they had metric nuts and bolts. Two employees took us all the way to the back of the store where there was this very large display of fasteners. They had the zinc plated nuts, zinc plated washers, and Nyloks but did not have the bolts that were fully threaded 8( They said there other store had more than they did 8) Later that day we went to Vacaville CA and sure enough they had maybe 25% more fasteners. They had one 70mm zinc plated fully threaded bolt and two 80mm zinc plated fully threaded bolts. I bought all three and will cut the two 80mm bolts to fit. Don also found a key-way he needed for the generator on his 1958 Volkswagen. He did not find the the 5mm nut with a 14mm outer. It was a good day.

Good find! I've fixed my ACD plate with studs and it is so easy to put on and take off.
