I am considering selecting a set of Givi Trekker cases, with the pivoting 1/4 opening, and not the Givi Trekker Outback with the removable top.

Do you find it difficult to access your luggage items with the 1/4 opening? i.e. having to remove other items to get to items on the bottom.

Or, does the size of the opening limit some items from fitting inside the case?

You have 2 options with the regular Trekker 33L case - open up just the 1/4 lid as shown in your pic for quick access OR the entire lid can be opened.

I have these and I love them. They work very well. IMHO it is very easy to dig through the "slot" as it is. Only opening the top portion seems to keep everything contained where I have it stacked and seems to hold everything in its place. For example I can dig to the bottom to grab pants or a shirt and drag it out and the rest still stays there.
With the flip of 2 little plastic levers the whole side of the bag can be opened if desired. These are really nice bags for the money.
The slot is very handy to access just the items on the top too.....like getting to my PPQ ;D

I have these GIVI panniers too and find the flexibility of having just to top section opening, really useful. When packing them up, I tend to put all the stuff that I need to get to easily, at the top of the panniers. So when I just flip the top open and get what I want, there is 0% chance of everything falling out onto the road. As others here have pointed out, you have the option of locking the top sections shut with a pair of hooked levers inside the lid, if you wish. I've had mine for three years now and they're still 100% watertight too.

I am in agreement with the others. I've never had an issue accessing things with the quarter opening. I find it very usefull.
As the others stated also, if you pack anything that won't fit through the quarter opening it takes seconds to change over to full-clamshell opening.

They are great panniers in my opinion.

I saw those on another ten ere the other day…look nice. I was starting to lean toward those, but think I'll stick with the original plan and go with the give trekker outbacks…more space and easier to load with the whole access being front-loading.

Don't forget these can convert in about 10 seconds so that they open in classic clamshell fashion. ::008::

100 times better than the Yamaha bags on my bike, the Yamaha lids won't even stay open for loading and they have very goofy difficult to operate locks.

I have these, and I replaced the OEM luggage with them. They are soooo much easier to get into/out of. They are more waterproof than the oem luggage, the locks don't bind/break/fallout. If I have my 5.11 backpack I do either leave it in the top box, or open the lid all the way to secure it, but it's not really a bother to do this. You could stuff it into the opening without opening the full door if it wasn't packed to the gils with gear. Overall one of the better mods I've done for touring. I wouldn't use them in situations where I was going to be expecting to dump the bike as they would not survive.
