There i was riding my little Suzuki drz400 thumper home after a long day of grinding in the gravel, mud, rocks and steep hills of NW Mass(Torrey Mtn Trail & Tunnel Rd) and S VT(County Rd). I had been on the road since 6AM and had had a long tough day but, as long as I had a 2.5 hr ride home why not enjoy it on some nice twisties on Rt 8a south and 116 east back toward Worcester, MA.
I turned off Rt 2 in Charlemont MA onto Rt 8A South and noticed another rider who'd also just turned onto that route, I caught up to him at the stop sign and thought the bike looked familiar, it was a bright blue new S10. He nodded and we took off down Rt 8a. The s10 pulled away like i was going backwards. I kept sight of the S10 every now and then and when he finally came up on a cage out for a Sunday drive I caught up to and signaled to him to stop for a chat.

I met Hal, 'Tree Line' on this forum, has very recently gotten the bike, completely fitted and kitted for a ridiculously low price and has a little over 1k miles so far. Hal had just decided to go out for his own little Sunday ride, a little over 300 miles! We exchanged contact info, I told Hal not to wait on me and off we sped down twisty route 116 East, the S10 leaped ahead like it was in hyper drive. What fun it was trying to keep up on my little s10-wanna-be grinder.

And not b4 too long there was another Sunday driver and I caught up. We sling-shotted back and forth for most of Rt 116 until I turned off on some of my other favorite back roads. After a little while and back on rt 116 again what do I see but a mc headlight coming up behind me and who but Hal, my short cut has advanced me on the game of catch-up and who-first.
We chatted a bit at a traffic light or two around Amherst and realized we were both going almost all the way back, living just one town apart. I knew some back roads and so Hal said lead the way. We did a pretty spirited pace and then we came to the gravel that I usually take to keep the ride interesting, Hal said he'd not been off-road w/ the S10 yet and I know he's still riding the oem Battlewings but, he said he'd be up for the gravel. Hal had said he used to ride dirt bikes, so off we zipped thru the back roads and woods just west of the Quabin Reservoir. We did about 20 miles of dirt hitting 30+ at some points, we were keeping it at a moderate pace being prudent.

We eventually reached Rt 122 East and finally Hal sped off using the few passing zones available on the route.

Now after I clean the dried mud off the DRZ and my riding gear I look fwd to getting back on my S10 and heading back out into the wilds of New England. Btw never take your S10 on Tunnel Rd, at least not UP, Or Torrey Mtn Trail, if you want to keep it in one piece, WHEW. ::002::

Another great day riding on whatever suits, and thanks Hal, so nice to meet another spirited new s10 rider. ::012::

Enjoy yourself.
Cheers, dean ::001::
