I don't know how to imbed this so it's just a link. Short video of me and my Tenere in a little sand. Not deep, maybe 2-3 inches. Pretty soft stuff though. The high spots on the road are hardpack, the low spots are sandy. I don't have a lot of sand experience but I found the Tenere pretty easy to handle. I was probably going about 20. When I tried to go a little faster things began to get a little squirrelly. It's not as easy as my DRZ400, but not bad either. If the sand was deeper I would definitely want a knobby of some sort.

I've been trying out various dirt roads and trails in the area and I think the Tenere will get me anywhere I want to take it. Surprisingly easy to ride on dirt.

Good video John. I am guessing street tire pressure. The Tenere looked at home in Nevada. Where were you?

That looks a awful like my area in Calif. What tires & pressures where you running? My EXP's behave like that (& alot worse) in soft sand.

I was in Hungry Valley, just north of Reno. Tires were at the recommended street pressure, which I don't remember off the top of my head. It didn't even occur to me to air down. I usually do that for rocks and there aren't a whole lot where I was going. I'll try that next time.

So...were the tires the Tourance EXP's or the Bridgestone's?

What are the pressures recommended for soft sand and dirt?
Mid 20's, depending on what you are carrying and if it's not really rocky.

Im 109kgs and carrying a load of say 50kgs, 29/29 a good figure?
Personally, I wouldn't run much lower than this, and if I did run lower, I'd air back up ASAP once out of the slop. A lot would depend on whether you were going to be back on pavement at speed later and whether you were willing to re-air back to higher pressures. Less than 30 psi will overheat the S10's tires at speed, especially with a load, and tire mileage will be abysmal. Lower is almost always better for dirt traction, but you have to start worrying about rim dings and spinning the rim at some point.
