I just did what I think is the 600 mole service. Is there anything else a dealer would do besides oil change on engine/FD, check wheels tighten spokes & a general once over looking for loose bolts or low fluids ? I did find about 6 or 7 spokes that were loose, engine oil was real clean for 1st change but there was well over 4qts in there not sure if the dealer over filled it or it came to them that way. I'm going to ask them. I have a feeling there shop isn't the best because when I picked it up and rode it for 1st time it handled like crap. And I'm thinking oh know what did I just buy, got it home checked tire pressure and both front and rear were over 50 psi. I think I'm going to look for a different shop.

Part of the Yamaha setup checklist for the dealer is to check oil level and check tire pressure. Sounds like your dealer's setup person didn't do either correctly.

A dealer is as good as its employees. Let them know what you found to be in error (vinegar) but thank them for their service (sugar). Get a Service Manual, hard copy and or digital.

That said, check everything they did.
. The front wheel is installed by the dealer and the early 2012's had too many complaints of them being improperly installed.
. Check the right side panel.
. Be careful with tightening the spokes too much, especially the rear.
. Might want to loosen and re-torque the handlebars and mirrors.
. Check the windshield fasteners.
. Lube the shifter bushing with water resistant grease (factory issues).
. Check the rear brake for function.
. If your brakes are not the best brakes you have ever ridden... there is something wrong.
. DO NOT over tighten the oil drain plugs. The bottom of this engine is very soft.
. Lube the chain (checking to see if you are still awake).
. My final drive was fluid looked so bad I changed it three times in the first 1,000 miles (overkill but made me happy).
... Listen to Fred. He knows what it takes to build both generations of Tenere and maintain them.

Thanks for info. I used Bel-Ray spray lube on the chain ! I changed my FD fluid twice I did not know the FD get hot & thought something was wrong maybe no oil so I pulled drain plug & watched 200cc of dirty oil run out. I'm going to safety wire my drain plugs and use correct torque on em. Your right about dealer only as good as employees but I say it starts at the top and sloppy work especially on a vehicle shouldn't be tolerated.

Thanks for this list. I am in the middle of my 600 mile service and will add everything below to the list. Coming from a long list of chain driven bikes, the shaft drive looks to be a major convenience feature. However, I was surprised at how little oil it required. I am somewhat of a perfectionist and getting the level correct is not an exact science by any means. ::)

The first couple times I changed the final drive fluid...while pouring the fluid in I turned the wheel backwards to suck fluid in. The stopped the wheel and let it self drain. This full but messy. Now I drain it on the sidestand... Put the Tenere on the centerstand... Fill using the oil bottle and a piece tubing... Fill until it is full... Insert the filler plug... Wipe the housing. Takes maybe 10 minutes.
