Hi EricV, I understood that the CCT was only an issue on Gen 1 SuperTens? I thought that Yamaha had addressed this on Gen 2 bikes?
The Gen II bikes do have an upgraded design. And my '15 would benefit from the newer version that came out in '17. However, the CCT is still a normal wear item. It's not listed on any schedule though. My FJR went thru 5 CCTs and was on the 6th one at 162k miles. Most of them were in the first 100k.
The S10 has a very long cam chain due to the parallel twin design. I suffered a CCT failure on my Gen I bike at 83k. I could wait until the cam chain gets noisy and replace the CCT then. IMHO, that's going to happen, it's just a matter of when. Or, I can have the CCT replaced every other valve check/adjust since they will be in the same area at that time. I feel that's a cost effective time to do it. The valve check/re-shim is the only thing I pay a dealer to do. The rest I do myself. I can do it, I just don't want to.
