As for "universal" bracket, I required only one point to fix my holder, and the very first design in this thread has two holes for mounting (will take any Ram-Mount accessory that uses the diamond base 2 hole pattern).
The second design with more holes for mounting on top of it allows to fix more types of RAM mounts and not only RAM. For my case it allows to chose whether to fix holder with some offset or directly over the accessory bar. There is no specific use of the big hole in the center, but you can put a wire through it if suitable; that's just by design, I believe, for saving some material, whilst keeping the strength sufficiently enough.

Re: 3D printed accessory bar bracket free with Donation (US Only)

FYI,

I am located in SoCal, be happy to print a set for anyone local (Continental US).

At the cost of a small $5 donation to any major org (Salvation Army, Unicef, St Jude). and you pay the cost of shipping through paypal.

I can also print a set in blue, red, black, silver. PLA Material. Can do black ABS but frankly I don't use cheap materials and PLA is fine for this application.

Just post a screenshot of the donation, and address. 1 per donation please.

My way of paying forward. :)

Fyi, I have the same unit, PrintRbot Simple Metal with some added mods. Can't say enough about it.

Also there is a great kit from Canada you can add on to expand the platform to 217 x 217 x 254 cm. It's from Matrix Precision. http://www.matrix-precision.com/

I highly recommended and his service and part quality is top notch. He's places orders and delivery on a regular basis, so just send him an email if interested. matrix.precision@outlook.com

Cheers

The plan was to print the part with ABS, but after my trial with PLA (which is much easier to print with) i just went with PLA again.

The part is insanely strong.

Have you made one? Picture? I like your pay it forward. I'll do a $20 donation for two and pay shipping.

Where are you in SoCal? will this model (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1327797) accept the four screws in the same pattern as a ram mount flange does? I'm looking to get my radar detector more closely mounted to the accessory bar.

I am so sorry, I missed your post. Let me check the dims and get back to you.

I am in Redondo Beach, be happy to meet at Neptunes Next and get you a model if its what you need.

The holes on the Part are Center to Center 48.50 mm.

If you need something custom, its not that hard to modify. But you would need to send me a 2d drawing with the mounting dims you would need. Center to center distances and size of the holes.

Thanks
