Comparing the two engines is like comparing a diesel to a Miata. Neither is better, they are intended for different purposes. One is revvier, the other has more grunt. As far as the price difference if you sit on both, side by side, you will realize the S10 is a lot more bike. I am not knocking the FJ-09,its a great bike, just a different bike than the S10.
That's almost laughable. The spec's are not that far apart. I have sat on them side by side. Just don't see the 1/3 price difference.
It would probably take both of them in my garage to see which I liked more, seeing as I don't really take my S10 off-road much.

The warning sticker on my 2014 tank was on top of the clear coat but a real bitch to get off. It flaked off in itty-bitty little pieces, not one big decal.
Use a little heat and it comes off easily.

??? They're not putting the warning stickers under the clearcoat too, are they?
Hi Don,

No, fortunately they still have the warning stickers on top of the clearcoat so we can remove them.

I agree that having the yellow on the standard and not the ES is odd, but fortunately that will make my CFO happy as I will stick with my 2012 for now....and save up for a different Yamaha!

Not to go too far astray, the red white and blue with gold anodized wheels on the Africa Twin is not coming to the US. Red white and blue = United States, how hard is that to figure out?

Errm, Union Jack = red white and blue. I don't think it was politically motivated Don ::025::

Darn, more than i would have guessed and some of them have gold/yellow included in their flag.

Have you ridden both? While similar in style they really are different bikes.

I realize they are diff, serve diff roles, but comparing the specs and design, $5K diff is a little odd to me.
FJ09 mag reviews are always great while S10 reviews are so-so.
I like mine now that she has 5K on her and fits my 6'3" pretty good. I'm always looking for the next bike anyway.
Love the variety out there. ::015::
I really like that bike manuf are coming out with some cool bikes now.

Everything on the S10 is higher spec: suspension, brakes, traction control, drive train, wheels, etc. You can see a side by side comparison here:

https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/sport/models/2016/super-tenere-es/compare/?compId=2641

Part of the reason why FJ-09 reviews are so positive is because the bike is good bang for the buck. I didn't care for the higher rear set footpegs but if they put that triple in an adv bike it would make my short-list of future bikes.

After seeing those pics of the yellow S10 posted the other day, I can't wait to see one in person. The Yamaha website doesn't do the color justice. Thanks for the eye candy, desmo21!

I stopped by a large Yamaha dealer In Arizona yesterday and asked one of the salesmen to contact me the minute they receive one. Interestingly, they still had a brand new white 2013 S10 on the floor. It was priced at $9,300.00.
