2015ES vs 2016ES vs 2017ES

I will put this disclaimer out there to start...I will bet there is a thread about what I am asking, and I have searched, but I can't find anything specific. I am looking to purchase one of these listed in subject. I looked at and sat on each one of these today. Other than the color and the reduced price because of the hold overs, are there any differences?

It's an awesome forum.

But you'll find there are pre-2014 Super Teneres, and 2014-current Super Teneres.
Nary a part number has changed other than that single dividing line.

Of course 2014 was the genesis of the ES model, as well. Pre 2014 there was only the standard Tenere.

Bet you're gonna find a good price? :)

Thank You! I had a guy tell me today they re-mapped for 2017. By the way, he only had a 2017. I have did a lot of S10 research these last few months and everything I seen said only the color has changed. I live in an area with not a lot of Tenere's in the dealers, so going has been tough, but hopefully will have one soon.

Yes. The Gen 2 bikes were a big improvement over the Gen 1s. 2014 and up are Gen 2s. Other than colors there probably are VERY small improvements every year not mentioned by Yamaha. This also happens with all brands. Go for the newest you can afford.

2014 thru 2017 all have the same ECU part number, so I doubt there has been any re-mapping.
2017 does have a different meter unit (speedometer) and previous years are no longer available. I ordered a new meter for my '16, it was superseded to the '17 unit and it is MPH only, will not switch to KPH.
Perhaps someone with a new '17 can confirm this.

I just checked the manual for my wife's '17. It says you can switch between MPH and KPH. I'll try to remember to take a look. We're heading to Canada in a couple of months. Sure hope it does both.

I have both a '15 and a '17 here. The only difference I've found is the '17 has gone back to a gloss painted front fender. The '15 has the matte finish fender. That's it....oh....well one is red, one is blue. That's it.

This is my only complaint on my 2012 not been able to switch from KPH to MPH as I do most of my riding in the USA. But the US bikes can change from MPH to KPH

Same here, when I bought my '16 I specifically asked the dealer if the speedo was switchable and he said yes, I should have asked here for the truth!
When I discovered it isnt switchable I ordered a new meter unit for a USA spec bike and plugged it in, MPH only................. after a bit of discussion the dealer let me return the new meter.
If Dirt Dad confirms their '17 is switchable then maybe the switching logic is in the ECU, not the meter. If so, I will try a USA ECU, maybe eliminate the immobilizer at the same time! ::012::

I just use my GPS .

I use a bicycle speedometer as my backup - supremely accurate, tough, adds extra trip meters, and i use it for metric speeds. Very handy when crossing into other countries. i've had the best luck with Sigma Sport and Cateye. With a wireless setup, you don't even need to wire anything up. Sweet.

Confirmed, her '17 will do KPH. In fact, when I switched it to KPH a second option appeared under the KPH setting which would have given me more granular options under KPH. I didn't explore those to see what that finer details would have been...it's cold out there right now.

Thanks, the options are for fuel consumption, choice of displaying km/L or L/100km.

Mostly for the extra trip meters. With the bike speedo, i can add daily trip distance travelled, as well as total trip travelled. That leaves the trip meter for fuel. It's been a while since i rode my bike, but does the Tenere have two trip meters? I think that it does. Then one is redundant.

Just an old habit from my airhead boxer days. Speedys were horribly inaccurate and the odometers would regularly fail.

I need to add a bicycle speedo to my Duke 690 as well. Same reason.

I am going to throw this out here. I have a price of 13k for the 15ES, another at 14k for a 16ES and 15.2 for the 17ES. I am curious to what you guys think. I have been to several dealers and it seems these are the best prices I can get.

In your shoes, I would go with the color I liked best.
