2015 ES - stalls/dies

A month ago I bought a brand new 2015 ES. I now have about 900 miles on it. Two times sitting at a stop light I clicked it in to neutral. When the green light came on I pulled in the clutch and clicked it into gear and it died. Another time downshifting approaching an intersection going from 3rd down into 2nd - it died. All of these times the bike immediately re-started. Another time just when leaving a stop light the engine stumbled like it was dying but immediately recovered. My dealer has never heard of anything like this - have you....? I initially wondered if I was hitting the side stand but that would take a drastic 6 inch drop to activate that kill switch. Any ideas...? On first two stalls I had not even started letting the clutch out yet - clutch still in.

this has happened to me on my 2012 S10. From a red light and when i put the ole girl into gear she died. I had to turn off the ignition and back on for her to start again. ::002::

My 2012 stalled a couple of times when new and my 2014 stalled once, neither have stalled since broken in.

My engine felt tight when I first rode it. Brand new with 0 miles. Definitely do the throttle sync and put some miles on it. Should clear up the more you ride it.

Congrats on the bike ::012::

I had the downshift stall as you describe on my 2014 when it was new. I pulled in the clutch and restarted while I was still rolling. It only happened the one time. There was someone else with a new 2014 who had it happen quite frequently (I don't recall which member), but I believe his went away as mine did. Who knows what the cause is, but it seems to be some kind of break-in anomaly. It should go away as you add miles.

My 2014 ES did it twice, but after about 1k miles it seems to have disappeared and operating super good...

From 2012 many units have done the same thing... The fastest and easiest way to fix this is to back out the (R) TB 3/4 of a turn and sync the (L) TB.. There ya go...

Thanks all for your replies. It is good to know that it is/was not just my bike and it will probably go away. Thanks also for the Sync hint. My dealer was contacting Yamaha to see if they had heard of this before so I will pass this information on to them....thanks.

Of course they have :) But they probably wont tell you that... And 'if' they offer to sync your TB's for you, you NEED to make sure they back out the (R) TB 3/4 of a turn and then sync the (L) one... Other wise its just a waste of time really......

Fire hasn't gone out once in my '12.

However, take a look at the pinned threads for air screw and CO adjustment. Good information in those and both are easy to "undo" if you don't like the results. Many bikes are very lean with factory settings and can use a little help off idle.

Good luck!
