If they made a street legal dual sport version, I would've bought one too. I'm not sure why they don't.

I wish that I lived somewhere that it was street legal. For now I have the wr250r, which makes me happy. On another note, be careful with the disc lock. You should get a velcro bracelet or something that is easy to put over the throttle, brake, or clutch so that it impedes you progress and reminds you. Have seen bent discs and dumped bikes from the use of those locks. Happy riding!

Combo didn't tell yaw what the quote one of his old riding buddies told him when he heard about this new "enduro".

But I will. :)

"Boy, that things gonna whip you round like a snake under a lawnmower"

I told Combo "no fear. I won't be too too far behind on my DRZ. When I catch up to the scene of the .......um crime(?), I'll pull you out from underneath that thing.

We are gonna have fun in Big Bend! If we survive the "desert challenge" on the dirt bikes on Friday, we're gonna attempt the Adventure challenge on Saturday on the Big Pigs.
Uncle's around the Bend rally in March. Yaw come. Bring your weapon(s) of choice. :)

autoteach, Your right about the disc lock. It did come with a cord to do just as you say. It also is a alarm and will beep on the 1st movement and then alarm on the 2nd one so that also helps. I have used them for years and also have one for the Tenere and I think they do a good job for the price.

, This thing is going to whip me but I LIIIIIIIIIIKE it! ;) I think after the first 50 miles you are going to get tired of running sweep and picking up motorcycles off of old farts. ;D

Nice bike Combo , I used to own this WR 250, but it spat me off so I decided that would be my last hurrah with off road bikes (there has been a few over the years)....besides I'm a bit too old nowadays ;)
Thanks guys!

I'm going to have fun with this Yamaha also. Makes for a good partner to the Big XTZ. ::022::

Guys,
I really like the WR450. Always wished Yamaha to make a real street legal version.
Alas I have a really nice 2007 WR450 wasting away in the garage if anyone is interested. Just not time to ride it.

Yaw see that? You see Combo take a swipe at my humble little DRZ? (although admittedly, I DO run sweep mostly. Not the bikes fault. It's my "cover" for being way past my prime)

Anyways, I might be running sweep at Big Bend alright, but NOT on a DRZ. ::013::

Got my own lawnmower to get whipped around like a snake on.

We're all gonna die. LOL

Had my mind made up to get the 350. Had read all the arguments about the "nimbleness" advantage, though the weight difference is about a pair of boots.

Then my nephew at a KTM dealer asked me why the 350? I told him with great conviction, all my forum quotes. ::)
He laughed at me hysterically. Then said, "Ok uncle, if you say so. But aren't you the crazy man who has been sending me pics from all over the world the last 3 years trying to prove to me that a 600lb Tenere can go ANYWHERE? You don't think the 500EXC is gonna be nimble enough?

As I stated on the other forum. Smart lad. 8)

Now that I have done my 1 hour breakin, (yea, it's hours....not miles when you talk orange), I see his point.
The thing is a feather. Heck, it's a feather compared to the DRZ.

Nice, snake. I have one of those in my garage as well. WAAAYYY beyond my current skills, as I painfully proved last month with a very hard get-off out in the desert. But now I have the proper respect for this awesome dirt rocket!! :D

I saw that Arjayes! as I tried to read through that wicked thread.

So far that thread is exactly what I thought it would be. It's a money pit thread. LOL
No surprise, of course. They ALL are.

Got some stuff coming to surprise my mechanic with. (Combo is my mechanic....just doesn't know it yet)
Kind of hard to keep a secret from him though if I'm gonna install the stuff right under his nose.

Rekluse clutch. (another invention while I was asleep. That thing is just crazy)
Tubliss tire system. I plan on blasting through the Big Bend sand at about 5lbs of air pressure. :p (I'll still stop and help Combo and Fred change their pinch flats though. Being the gentleman that I am. "help" meaning, keep them company)

Trip is shaping up to be a legendary Dirtbike + ADV Pig event. The trick will be keeping at least 1 designated driver to get us home. (one driver not in a cast)

Dude, I can see you're not gonna skimp on the upgrades! The Rekluse falls into the "luxury" end of the upgrade spectrum IMO, but I've read almost universally great reviews about them for technical stuff.

Alrighty then, while you're in the mode don't forget about a rear wheel with cush hub from Woody's (I went with a Rad hub but some swear by Talon), Doubletake mirrors, 5.3 gal Acerbis tank for max range (with its own fuel pump to make it easy to swap tanks of course), new gearing, new seat, etc. I also cleaned up the rear end with an LED tail kit after one of the floppy rear turn signals got trashed during my tumble. The need for a cush hub (or not) is a hotly debated topic, but I obviously bought into the "for" argument (to the tune of about $1k from Woody's).

Good choice going with the 500. If you're dual-sporting and doing any long stretches at freeway speeds you'll be happy with the extra top end. Even the 500 is barely tolerable at 60+ MPH for any length of time, but it's better than the 350. And as you said, the weight difference is in the noise once you add your heft into the equation.

Can't wait to read the reports about this epic trip! Have fun and wear lots of armor!!
