The fan on/off temperatures can be altered with a reflash of the ECU. Mine comes on at 205°F and off at 195°F after flashing it.

Update for a replacement OEM radiator fan. I found an R6 fan used on Ebay for $50 USD from : goldrivermotorsports , shipped cheaply to Blaine, WA for pickup in 2 days. The R6 fan motor is physically identical to the S10 part, but the fan itself is smaller diameter. I simply swapped the fan and the Tenere electrical connector and reinstalled. I've been running it now for a few hundred kilometers in temps up to 35C and it's working as normal. Fan comes on at 105C coolant temp. and off at 100C in a few minutes. I'm a happy camper!
Thanks to all members for their help.
This subject of rad damage begs the question of upper crash bars. I have the accessory OEM crash bars and they have proved their worth protecting the engine side cases. I would love to hear from anyone who has found or fabricated upper bars to protect the fan, plastics, etc., that work with the OEM crash bars. I will probably fabricate a solution this winter if I find nothing else. Ride safe. M

A frustrating result with 'proper' high sided protection; they work perfect on hardpack, no real damage, drop a bike in sand and all bets are off. The sand will blast past the bars and still compress the plastics into the fan. Grrr. Jaxon made a cool filler for the high loop of the Altrider bars that would keep the sand from getting through. I never ordered one, I do not do sand.
