I can see aftermarket pipes being in demand to eliminate the giant "bulls balls" hanging under that thing now.
Thanks Taka. Is anything the guy says worth translating?

I think they tried for the "rugged military equipment look" and they half way got there, but the 80's dash look sort of invaded as well probably becuase it's square and has lots of coloured lights in a row, like many eighties dashes.markjenn said:Is anybody else nonplussed with the new instrument cluster? Hard to be definitive without seeing in person, but the photos so far (here and elsewhere) sure make it look cheap and the readability doesn't look that great either, especially the tach.

Just about everyone I show the picture of the dash to, "says wow that's terrible looking", but maybe I'm getting used to it.markjenn said:Is anybody else nonplussed with the new instrument cluster? trust me. the dash on the fz09 is just there. I simply ride it, glance down at the speed once in a while. The rpm bar is useless, as a third tit.GrahamD said:I think they tried for the "rugged military equipment look" and they half way got there, but the 80's dash look sort of invaded as well probably becuase it's square and has lots of coloured lights in a row, like many eighties dashes.
So I was originally a bit Meh but I am getting used to it. As far as readability goes, we'll see. The FZMT-09 dash was sparking a few whinges, until people rode it and it seems OK, so time will tell. I just got some new glasses so I can see a gnat on a distant mountain right now so I'll probably be complaining about the atomic structure of the pixels more than anything.
+1 in the whinge column. ;Dgreg the pole said:trust me. the dash on the fz09 is just there. I simply ride it, glance down at the speed once in a while. The rpm bar is useless, as a third tit.
I thought it was just me . I liked the old cluster better , new one looks like a Vapour tach cramped in the Pelican case . I don't like digital tach's at all , they are "too busy" on my lover peripheral vision ( I think that's what it's called ) while riding . Old one was way cooler and robust looking .markjenn said:Is anybody else nonplussed with the new instrument cluster? No problem, There was a guy I met from Bufalo, he likes to come to the Toronto auto show and bike show to see what you don't get in USA, I think you guys get more including more $$ in your pockets when you get them .Travex said:erenet: Thanks for posting those pics up. I had intended to go to TO for the show today to have a look at the '14 which I'm going to move over to when available, but something came up.
As for the display... I'm still out on that and am looking forward to setting eyes on it.
Ditto on both counts.snakebitten said:There is very little about the 2014 calling me. I'm happy about that in both directions. My bike isn't obsolete, AND Yamaha is sticking to their design intent.
But there are some intriguing improvements. The dash, not so much. I don't hate it. But I don't like it better either. That big giant analog tach is a favorite. Some things aren't so easy to improve on. Watch dials being one, for me.
Your efforts are appreciated as I've been trying to glean more visual info on the '14 and it's still quite sparse. Would have thought with the earlier releases in both Europe and Canada there would be more on it by now.erenet said:No problem, There was a guy I met from Bufalo, he likes to come to the Toronto auto show and bike show to see what you don't get in USA, I think you guys get more including more $$ in your pockets when you get them .
I went by the Yamaha booth twice, my friend told me " you always have to spend an hour every year on the Tenere!!" . They had only the gray ES Tenere on display.
Firs time I went by their booth I had the Tenere all to my self, Yamaha had a big screen playing hokey, Canada vs USA and everyone else was more interested in watching the game, I think at that time I could've run out with a new 2014 Tenere and nobody would've seen me . (I was born here, but grew up in a country where ice was mostly found in the freezer . After the game they turned off the screen, I told one of the guys that there are a lot nice videos including some of the Tenere they could be playing instead of just wasting a big screen. Good info I got out of most the guys working there was how nice of a place they have in their individual dealers and very little homework on what they're supposed to be representing. The rest of the show wasn't any different, some better then others and all I did was denying business cards. I understand that on the other 2 or 3 shows we have here, this show is supposed to be the manufactures show.
Second time I went by Yamaha booth the key was on the bike and a bunch of guys were playing with the display, hazards were on and no one knew how to turn them off including one of the private dealers owner that was there representing Y. Canada, luckily I was there ::025:: . That was my fist chance seeing and playing with the new cluster, I like it and like what it can do, it has almost everything I wished my 2012 had when I got it. I guess we all have to see it in person, I don't remember thinking anything negative when I first looked at it, I think you can make it darker or brighter, but I didn't play with that. Apparently, selecting the different suspension settings the bike has to be running, maybe not to discharge the battery. My time was limited as more people wanted to sit on the bike ( no hokey game then ::010: and my lousy pictures were taken just to show you guys a few things we can do with the display.
