So, I've just completed 600 miles on my 2014...after upgrading from the 2012. The new bike has done the following about 3 or 4 times on a cold start. You start it, the engine catches, and you are convinced you have a good start, and after 1 second... it dies. It might take a bit more cranking to start it again, but it starts and runs fine.

Any ideas?

Another data point - 2014 that doesn't like to run for a few seconds. After a few cranks will catch and turn over, but then idle VERY low and sort of "build up" to about 1700 RPM or so after about 3 seconds.

It hasn't actually died yet, but it's close enough that I think we have the same issue.

Also, if I blip the throttle at a standstill, it the RPM will dive below idle and nearly stall before recovering.

~2000 miles on the ODO, if that matters.

Mine does the same thing. Starts and dies, then starts again and runs fine. I don't know why. I will take a look at the ECU mapping when I get a chance to see if there is anything in there that looks suspicious.

Cheers,

I wonder if it would help to turn the right airscrew out 3/4 from bottom and do a TB ballance. Did mine and it's way less likely to stall from takeoff.

I did the airscrew adjustment last night and this morning tried a cold start. It stumbled a bit when it normally would have stalled but did continue running.

Cheers,
Craig

do you have a code coming up?
code 19 is the side stand switch, which is usually the culprit.
My sss has given up the ghost after 55 thou km. I replaced it with a new one, and that one did give me some grief after a very dirty ride, and a power wash.
Seems to be ok now.

A couple things come to mind...

... ... Sounds like your Tenere is new and under warranty. Suggest you take it to the dealer and ask them the find the problem. If they have sold a few Tenere's they know of this problem.

... most new Super Tenere's arrive without a good throttle body sync. If you have a meter it does not cost anything to sync the TB's.

... CJM or Clutch Jumper Mod is another free/cheap temporary fix. Find a Mini Fuse and slide it into the backside of the blue-yellow / black-yellow wires on the Clutch Safety Switch. http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=9016.0 and you can search for more using CJM.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: the Stall corrected with the CJM can be professionally/permanently corrected by Flashing the ECU

So, here is the stock idle map for the 2014. I am making the assumption that Celsius temperature is across the top and RPM down the side since it doesn't explicitly say. Also, I assume that the values in the table are either butterfly valve position adjustments or injector adjustments. If anyone actually knows, please chime in. It seems that increasing the values in the 1000-1300 RPM and -2° up to 33° range might help with the stalling at cold start-up. Anyone have any input?

Thanks, guys. Good discussion. I'll let you know if I make a positive action and it positively stops!

Just bought a 2015 and have NO problems with the stumble or acceleration. I was surprised thought very happy.

Happened Once a few months ago on my 2014 S10 ES

Just filled the gas tank.
Parked it on the side stand.
Left in parked after a 20 mile ride ... in direct Florida sun for an hour.

Hard to start and would only run at low rpm for about 10 seconds .. then cleared and worked fine.

I assume it was due to a full gas tank and parking a hot bike in the hot Florida Sun.

Has not happened since but I tend not to over fill the gas tank now (Just in case that was the cause)

I was surprised. My 2012 had this problem and I was expecting the same from the 2015 ES. Not a problem. Thank you Yamaha.
