Anybody that is considering a 2014 ES model should check with their dealer for details, as this is only being offered under Yamaha's Pre Sold Program.
Nevermind. It has been further explained to me that this only pertains to dealers that either (a) didn't get the ES allocated during the initial ordering period (now), or (b) they did and sold all they were allocated. In case of example (b) they have to submit proof that they sold those units so they can order more for the second delivery period in June.

I hope I understood it correctly this time. ???

SBTMF. ;)

Was out riding yesterday, and stopped by the dealer where I bought my S10. I was chatting with the salesman that sold me the bike, an old gray beard that's been in the business for about 30 years, and we started talking about the 2014. He always asks me specifics about S10 ownership, so he can pass it on to potential buyers. He asked me if I'd be interested in riding the 2014 when it comes in next month, so he can get my take on the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2. I said, "not really looking to buy a 2014". He said, "no, I understand that, just want you to ride it for a while so you can tell me how it compares to your 2012." I said, "OK, I'LL DO IT!" He didn't have to twist my arm any further. :)

New P/N's indicate that changes were made to the valves, rings, cams, heads, etc.. and remember the updates to the clutch basket. It will be interesting to get an objective review of theses changes and how they affect the character of the motor. If it HP ya want in your adventure tourer there are better option from BMW and KTM.

I do wish they had added a couple more gallons of fuel capacity to made it a more worthy competitor for the GSA for those that like to go long.

Careful - that's also a good way for him to sell you a new bike even when you have no intention of buying one.

That's awesome! It's also what's called a Puppy-Dog Close - like when you bring a puppy home and you see how cute it is, and how fun it is, etc. you don't want to get rid of it. I worked on the sales side my first two years in the car biz, and it was common practice to "puppy-dog" enthusiast types when a new model hit, for the exact reason your sales guy cited. Classic!

Having said that, I sure wouldn't turn down the offer to bop around on his new motorcycle for a while!

Quick question, rotortech: Does your Tenere have an ECU flash? Reason I ask is it would be very interesting to see how the '14's extra two horsepower and improved throttle response compares to a flashed '12 or '13.

Either way, enjoy riding his new bike when you get the chance, I sure-as-heck would! :)

So true. I once had a dealer loan me an ATV to use over the weekend. Didn't care for it when I put it in the trailer. I brought it back 3 days later and told him I'd take one in orange. Never regretted it.

I have no intention of buying the '14, but if it blew me away in my "comparison test" I could definitely see danger to my wallet. Life is too short to ride the wrong bike.

Mine does have the Gen II flash. He was wanting my opinion on the 14's tweak in horsepower. I told him about the flash I have, and he said, "Oh, then maybe it won't feel as quick as your bike".

I was most interested about the 14's refinement to the clutch. Mine has the 3200rpm shutter, and I'd like to see if they eliminated that.

I've known this particular salesman for several years, and we just stand around for an hour and talk bikes whenever I go in there. He knows me well enough by now to know when I plan to buy, and when I don't.

Sounds like an excellent opportunity to provide valuable feedback to the forum, especially with regard to how the 2014 ECU programming and clutch enhancements compare to your flashed 2012 model.

Thanks for taking advantage of this opportunity.

Yea rotortech,
Your mission, should you accept it, is to fulfill the critical role of comparing a Flashed V1 Tenere to a V2 un-flashed Tenere. Otherwise New owners of 14 Tenere's will NOT know if their new bike is truly an upgrade in this area. Does the 14 need a similar flash?

Many of us current owners underestimated the benefits of the flash because we really didn't think the OEM flash was that bad. Only to learn.........

This message will not self destruct in 5 seconds. So it will torment you until you accept!
Good luck. :)

Off topic I know... that said, I honestly did not realize that the shutter I feel around 3200rpm could be caused by the clutch. I assumed it was the fueling and have been saving up for a ECU flash to combat it. It's the number one issue I have with the bike.

That shudder you feel is definitely the clutch basket. The flash does smooth out the motor and help in other areas of performance but that mechanical vibration you feel in the low 3K rpm range is from the basket. Lots of reading here. http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=7606.0

I second what Roll-it-On said. Follow his link and read up on that vibration. I don't want to go off topic, but that 3200rpm vibe didn't change for me at all when I went to the ECU-Unleashed flash, so you will be disappointed if you're only flashing the bike to get rid of that vibe.

Back on topic though....Snakebitten, now you have me all nervous. I can't take this kind of pressure, I feel light headed and, well, maybe I should just go for a ride to calm down. ::26::

Does anybody know what the big deal is with the new "aluminum kickstand"? Doesn't seem like it's worth mentioning. It's a kickstand.

Have been thinking the same thing, Venture... Dunno what the big deal is, other than, "I'll need to paint that black to match the rest of the bike."

I'm all about saving/losing weight, but that seems so nominal I'm left wondering....Why?

Skip lunch and you will be ahead with regards to the aluminum side stand. If they however provide a better way to get it with your foot it will be a win. The one on my bike is goofy for sure as it is a bit of a challenge to catch it on the first try......

I tried it at a local bike show and it is easier now with the new one.
