Had to go out of town on business first thing Monday after the rally, delaying the posting of some video on my YouTube channel.
But now have 4 video segments posted of the Friday ride with Tony99 and fishcat. If interested intaking a peek, go to this first link and then access the others within my YouTube channel (sorry, don't know how else to do this, I absolutely suck at posting video into forum posts)

http://youtu.be/82xlYu5yBGQ

The 4 segments cover....1) Starr Mountain - up the mountain from south to north, 2) Continuation of Starr Mountain chasing Chris, 3) Doublecamp Creek Road, and 4) Cold Spring Road. Nothing fancy here....raw video with no sound - you have been warned.

Sorry I have no video of the Saturday ride. I simply never turned the camera on??!! It would have been cool to have the mad dash down 68 on video. I was sweeping so ya'll would have been out in front of the camera. Sorry, my bad.

Tony and Chris, thanks for the great company on Friday's ride. Hope you guys liked that big 'ole loop. Tony, thanks for tagging along on Thursday for the "investigation" of Davis Creek. As we found out after we had turned around, another couple hundred yards of serious mud and we would have dumped out onto River Road! Wonder if we could have made it??

Gotta do this again soon. With Davis Creek under construction, might be better to stay on the Tellico Plains side of the Cherolaha? Check out www.cycleresort.com (Cherohala Mountain Trails Campground) - the owners are Wayne and Kellie, retired folks from NJ, and they have a real nice place and would take real good care of us. Kellie makes a mean marinated steak that she could fix up for the entire group!! Just a little plug for some fine people.

Anyhow, though the group was somewhat fragmented at Crawfords, it was a good time, in a wonderful riding area.

Hope to see y'all again soon.

Thanks for leading on Saturday Bob. It was really great meeting and riding with you. Do I hear Spring gathering at Cherohala Mountain Trails Campground? I'm in!

Had a great ride Saturday. Me, Bob, and Tony were the only pavement riders. We covered 3 states and 372 miles.
Damn that is a long day in the Mountains! No speed limits were broken during this ride, right? :))

Damn, watching that video makes me wish I would have gotten there a day earlier. That ride looked easier than the one we did on Sat. Sat. was a bit intimidating for someone that has never ridden this bad boy off road. It was fun but a bit too fast a pace for me. Anyway, I had a great time and it was nice meeting everyone. Maybe we will do it again sometime.

This fall works for me.....as does next spring. Post up if there is any interest, and possible dates. I'll check with Wayne and Kellie to see what they have going on at the campground. I'm sure they'd love having us, even if only a few can make it. Keep in mind that North Georgia has awesome roads too - asphalt and dirt. Look on a map - tremendous riding from about Elijay in GA well north of the Cherolaha in TN/NC. Several options for camping/cabins in around the Helen-Suches-Dahlonaga area too. Some of you know about TWO in Suches, GA. It is now reopened, the new name being Two Wheels Of Suches. The new owner dumped a bunch of money in it....it's gorgeous. Point is, I'm in the general area frequently and would be glad to put together rides (some asphalt, mostly dirt), and lead too if major speed in not expected.

Back to last weekend and the videos, I think YouTube had a problem processing a couple of them. I'm redoing the one where I am following fishcat - hopefully it gets through this time. 3 of the videos are there already.

The Friday loop WAS fun...not intimidating at all. I think Tony and Chris will agree. I can see how some may have different opinions of Saturday's ride. It was OK, just too much gravel overall for my taste. I warned y'all about Lookout Tower Road. I myself am not crazy about it with the ST, but with the DRZ, it's a hoot and one of my favorites. From my experience, that is the problem with larger group rides - trying to find the right mix of road type, and then speed, to suit the majority of the group. I know it's always said, ride your own ride, but from this rider's perspective - with my moderate stills - I find I am always "pushing" to try to keep up with the leaders. I know I shouldn't, but it happens. That's why I followed the crowd down the hooligan road at the leaky pipe, got a little sideways in the mud and decided to turn around. If I was thinking straight, I would not have even gone part-way in! I don't have the skills to handle the beast in that type of setting. And I have no desire to see my baby lying on the ground (I know it will happen sooner or later). But I WILL go back in there with the DRZ!! You betcha!

Still, overall, a great weekend. Every time I ride the ST, I love it more and more. My supremist GSA buddies are full of shit!

The great thing about these rally's is that you can put a face (and personality) with a name.

I would be interested in riding up again and trying some more dirt if we can do a few more bunny hills first. However, it would not be until next spring before I can make it back.
