That's all stuff you'd need to do on the '15 anyway. I say take the 2012 to FL. Decide on the '15 when you get back. I'm surprised someone else hadn't suggested to pack the credit cards, stop planning & start riding. Easier said than done, but think that's to dcstrom method.

Too much downtime. Need to get a job or paint my house or landscape the backyard or... The positive side is I have missed some crappy weather but the Rio Grand and Coastal weather will probably be on and off all summer. The good is my friend, in Canada, that had some critical cancer surgery is doing very well. Makes everything else seem small and irrelevant.

The 2012 Tenere is repaired and ready to be picked up. The fork seals started leaking so they installed new fork seals. Very Nice! They also drained the fuel tank and filled it fresh gasoline. Very Nice!

Here is the question...

...do I pick up the 2012, install the Akropovic, have the ECU flashed, have the forks re-valved, service the swingarm, check/replace the wheel bearings,...

...trade-in ($6,700) the 2012 for a 2015 ES ($15,800 OTD including everything), buy: new luggage, Altrider rear rack/storage bag, Altrider engine guards, foot pegs, ACD skidplate, hugger, big foot, Vizi-Tec, headlight guard, OEM wind wings, Y.E.S. Extended Warranty... have the ECU flashed,... install Akropovic,... sell: ACD skidplate.

Tough decision ???

Are they giving you good value for your farkles? If so, that's amazing. If not, why are you replacing so much stuff that can swap over to the '15.

It's a Yamaha, wheel bearings are probably not something you need to worry about unless you've been doing wheelies or a lot of off road riding. And I'm guessing you don't do much off road riding if you have a hugger on the '12. ;)

Hey, if you simply want to make different choices than you did the first time, bonus! Have you ridden a '14 or '15 Super Tenere yet? I wouldn't consider the upgrade until you do.

It's a big chunk of change to get a different color, CC and what? The adjustable windscreen mount? The '12 with the new clutch hub is not going to be as smooth as the '15 will be. It's better. A lot better. But not as smooth. A friend that has both a '12 and a '14, (I know, don't ask), swears the '14 "has no soul" and is probably going to keep his '12 and sell his '14. I think they are in different states at the moment. Bastid. Just saying that we each have our own take on things, so it's a very personal choice.

Good luck!

Well, you kind of just got a new bike, unless you have 9k laying around you don't need, ride the wheels off the twelve.

If you've got confidence in the '12 and it still buts a big grim on your face when riding...... I say keep it! ::008::

I say break in the 2012 and get going on your Florida trip. Re-farlking a new one is going to take too long and use up money that should go for Texas and southern BBQ.

Yesterday I traded-in the 2012 on a 2015 Super Tenere ES. Don't have many miles on it but like it a lot. Riding 300 miles on Monday and 600+ on Wednesday-Friday.

Haven't wished this too often but... being gamer would have benefited me to learn the the tools. Knowing how to read Yamaha would help learning from the Owners Manual.

All is good and I should be up to speed in a couple days.

Yea. A decision and a plan. I hear the cruise control is really nice for cross country. Let me know if you are coming down US 395 for the Wed-Fri loop.

The Wed-Fri ride will be between CA-1 and US-101 and CA-20 and CA-116. The "To" route is CA-128/west side of Berryessa - Lower Lake. The "From" route is Napa/CA-121 to CA-128. The majority is narrow twisty roads with a lot of On / Off throttle.

After this break-in ride I might ride over CA-4 to CA-89 Monitor Pass to 395 and head south. Manzanar has a new display that I would like to see. Have never ridden to Kernville from 9 Mile Canyon Road https://goo.gl/maps/uwOp2 . Looks like fun

Yep, that would have been my decision under the circumstances too. Except, I wouldn't have been as patient as you! :D Now put some miles on that thing!

tomatocity: that would be via Kennedy Meadows over Sherman Pass which I believe to be 9200 ft. elev. Have not done that route either and would look forward to it. I have an Air America reunion in Scottsdale Jun 1 thru Jun 7. If the sched works out, would love to meet up in Independence or Pearsonville (9-mile turnoff) and go to Kernville. Have a great break-in run.

HT: Lets make that happen. Looks like after you return is the earliest.
