Hi Guys,

This message is coming from Singapore...
I had a very rare occasion where have asked the dealer, stockist and fellow local s10 riders however no one have encountered this.

The ride suddenly decided to give me an error code of 42 after an over night parking, however it still rides normal.
Knowingly that is the rear wheel area giving a problem, I have started with a replacement of the rear ABS sensor. It didn't help though.
The speedo was not taking any reading as well.
Some riders claimed that it might be an abs issue. Happen to stumble on another rider which abs broken issue however he has speed reading.
The mechanic has also checked on all the wirings and fuses. All seemed ok.

Have also taken out the rotor sensor to have it cleaned up, but still doesn't work.

The next step he suggested is to get the rotor sensor replace to see if it solves the problem.

Your inputs please

Welcome, did you check the battery? Has it ever been replaced? I would start by doing a load test, not just a voltage test.
Hi there, yes I have actually replaced a new battery too to try

If there is no speed reading, I would first suspect the VSS wire. Does the bike have a Speedo Healer or similar device installed? If so, check where it ties into the VSS wire. I have seen no speed reading only once, and it was because of that VSS wire and were it was tied into the speedo healer unit.

Does the "TCS" flash or light up?
Hi, yes it lights up after it detects 0 speed. However when ever i off and on the ignition the tcs light is off.

I would still check the VSS wire to see that there is a signal there at different places along it. If it has a signal all the way to the dash harness for the instrument cluster, the issue could be with the instruments themselves.

Is there a dedicated VSS on these bikes? I had the impression that the ABS sensors/system was somehow tapped for this information.

After reading about how difficult it is to add a Speedo healer on a Super Tenere 1200 and how it is similar to FJR1300 having issues.

The speed is sensed by a mix of front and rear reading from the ABS sensors.
Issues with adding a speedo healer were is you add it to the rear then it can sometimes throw codes, so you needed to add 2x speedo healers to fix the issue one on front and one on rear and still not gaurentee fix with differing tyre sizes.

So checking for speedo issues you have to check both front and rear abs sensors and rings and wiring etc.
with even an intermittent signal in one, can cause the speed reading 'system' to throw a code as it out of sync.

If the motorcycle is started, placed in gear, on the centerstand and the wheel allowed to spin, the speedometer shows the wheel speed and the odometer advances as well, so it still appears the problem is something to do with the rear wheel system somewhere.

You were given bad information here. I installed a Speedo Healer back in 13 when I bought the ST and it was a fast and simple job. The best place to tap into the system is at the ABS pump. There is a wire harness coming from the ABS pump and you open it up and splice the SH green & whites wires into a Blue wire in the harness. Hook up the ground and hot wires to the SH and you're ready to go. It took two trips up and down the road to set the SH and now after 4 years it is still spot on with the GPS and have had no problems at all.

Oldrider is correct, (and more tactful than I would have been).

I installed a Speed-O-healer on my 2012 S10 in 2011. You do have to cut the VSS, (vehicle speed sensor), wire, at least with the gear indicator option. And it was an easy install.

Sorry I should have read that the affected bike is 2010 model... speedo healer works on Gen 1 S10's.

My comments are still correct but are for Gen 2 2014+ S10's that speedo healers may not work as front and rear abs is used for speed sencing.

appologies

So, after reading the various replies and careful analysis I may have come up with the answer. It's buggered!
Now, that may or may not be backed up with empirical evidence, but I stand by my ignorance........ hey! It's Friday! ::012::
