Gentlemen, I just complete a 1800km tour to the mountains, which included snow, rain, water crossings (up to knee deep) and gravel. All went smoothly. Every time the bike started on first ignition. There were few bumps while crossing water channels but nothing serious.

I came back, parked the bike and after 3 days tried to start it to take it for a wash, but it just wouldn’t start. See the video. Couple of time after prolonged ignition, the bike started but as soon as I left the throttle, it died. Also one time I heard a loud burst, as if a pressure had been released from a chamber.

I have opened the bike, cleaned the air filter, throttle body, spark plugs and coils. Checked the fuses and general wire plugs. All seem fine. All lights on the display are fine.

How do I begin to diagnose the issue??

Sharing a Facebook link, since I can’t seem to add the video here.

How is your battery? Fully charge it then get it load tested. If it is low voltage your bike will turn over and not start. Also if you go to idle your voltage drops. Possibly below the point that the injectors won't fire. That's where I would start. Then check back. Obviously if bad get a battery and Fully charge it prior to putting it in the bike.
Fingers crossed!

The birds cover the sound... but I don't hear the fuel pump working and cutting off when the pressure is reached

Didn't hear it, either. I'm not at my bike so I can't verify, but will the fuel pump come on after turning the ignition switch on if the kill switch is off and then turned on after the speedo cycles, like in the video? Maybe try flipping the kill switch to on before you turn the ignition on and see if you hear the pump. Does sound like the battery may also be weak, but I would think you should still hear the pump even with a week battery.

Gents, the issue got resolved. A friend told me that due to the trip there could be idle debris or something in the chamber, so try push starting the bike or connecting it to car battery through jumper cables.

I connected the bike to the car battery and it took a second to start. Kept it running for 5 mins and all issues are gone. It run like it should.

Thanks to all.

One of the very few things these bikes are sensitive to is the need for a strong battery and it doesn't take too long for the original YTZ12 to crank the starter but not start the bike. The problem is that there is so much current draw to the starter that the voltage drops to less than what the ECU needs to fire the spark plugs.

If/when possible replace the battery with a YTZ14. It is the exact same size case but contains more lead to have 9.5% more capacity. (230 c.c.a. versus 210)

One of the simpler and better explanations I've read on this non-start phenomena.

Well I’m another one that believes the main problem is the low cranking amps your current battery has, I highly recommend the Lithium Scorpion with 387 cold cranking amps, recently installed one in my Tenere and it no longer sounds like the battery is half dead when attempting to start. The stock 12S battery has 210 cold cranking amps, the 14S has 230 cold cranking amps, Scorpion Lithium has 387 cold cranking amps.
My opinion Yamaha should have been forced to recall all the Super Tenere’s years ago to fix this ridiculous hard start issue.
