Re: First North American SupaT gathering - Yukon Canada 2012

Early July is the peak of the summer up here, so it's a good time to shoot for. So we'll plan on that. I'll start hitting up the government agencies next week. Lots of time to prepare. We'll definitely keep you posted. Looking fard to it.

When you're bored this winter, check out the South Canol Road, North Canol Road, MacMillan Pass, CanTung (Nahanni Range) Road, Atlin Road, Skagway and Haines .... all from Whitehorse. If anyone is interested in something longer, check out the Dempster Highway. You will likely have never seen anything like the Dempster. R

Wish I could do this but just can't get away longer than 2 weeks.. may try the Labrador Hwy next year.
I'm planning on doing the TransLab with the S10 in early to mid September this year. Anyone interested? My first and only run on the TransLab was with my now deceased KLR. It was a full day's ride from Manic 5 to Happy Valley/Goose Bay.

REM, can you post a GOOGLE MAP way points on where you would like to hold the event... and then way points on the places you just wrote about here ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

That would be cool... Then we can all start looking on GOOGLE from where (________) lives, and how for to this place, or that place.....

Re: First North American SupaT gathering - Yukon Canada 2012

Well, I figure we'll meet in the vicinity of Whitehorse. I'll start looking for a spot right away. There are lots of women and small children and harmless animals to terrorize.

I'd be happy to do what you're asking, but I've never done a Google map before. I'll do a bit of research on that and give it a go. Maybe Troll knows how. It's probably pretty simple, I've just never done it. R

I have not done Google maps either. But you can load Google Earth and search for any of the areas we mention

Haines, Alaska
Skagway, Alaska
Whitehorse, Yukon
Dempster Highway, Yukon
Canol Road, Yukon

I am working on a shared google map - go to google maps and search " XT1200Z gathering " and I will try to figure out a link

Ill go see if I can add all the way points and then add that screen as a picture to the post. Then you should be able to click on that and it will allow you to click between way points and you should too be able to use the photo stuff GOOGLE have to take a 'real' look around..... prolly just the towns though, not the wilderness....... Ill go check it out...

It doesn't take two weeks... 6 days, 4k+ miles roundtrip from Maryland on a KLR with a stock seat, including one day lost to some "reassembly" issues. :D

With the better fuel mileage, bigger engine, and better seat, I figure the S10 should be able to allow me to stop off along the way a bit more and still take the same amount of time.

Yo, Tabasco, you don't want to get too excited about that Canol Road Hotel Corporation in Ross River. Killing me. Let's talk before you make any reservations up that way. Ross River is a spot on the road and overnight accommodation there is best avoided.

The South Canol is best approached from the south terminus, maybe 70 miles or so from Whitehorse, at Johnson's Crossing. Up to the Robert Campbell highway, then take a left and overnight in Faro. Not that far. Then back to tackle the North Canol. No accommodations of any kind all the way to the NWT that I am aware of. It's a camp out, or a very long day up and back to Faro.

Send me any questions you want and I'll try to answer them. Or we can figure it all out if/when you guys get here. It's all gonna be good. R

Dude... this is real campin up here!!!! This is the northern wilderness. We can take you places where we will probably be the only folks for miles. Like Alaska only a little more intimate. Next July is gonna be funnnn!
