It isn't what it appears. I spoke to that dealership yesterday. They're getting to the $9999 number by not offering the $1200 in accessories, and using that money as a discount off of MSRP. In addition, they have $1700 of fees on top of the $9999. So, their price is actually $12,300 plus tax and license, which is no bargain. You can probably do better and get it for closer to $12,300 out the door, and that's a fair price, not a steal.

Temecula Motorsports is borderline false advertising since you can't get the bike anywhere near $9999 before tax and license.

I have a Honda Dealer nearby that does that crap - Of course they don't tell you that until they draw up the paper work.

yep... we have a local dealer that I do not buy bikes from, but everything else.

ever since they tried to pull the below on me, I go somewhere else.

Lowest price advertised..
but wait there's more

Crate disposal fee (I"m not joking) $300
Dock Fee (again not joking) $150-200
Local tax 5%
Freight (forgot what they charged for that)

I'm surprised, they don't charge A/C recharge/tax ::015::

Re sell values will suffer since the 2014 is here. guys in calgary were getting brand new 2013's for about $13000 all in.
that there is a deal.

What Greg said. ::008::

Between buying a new S10 and a new car for my wife this year I was stunned to see the newest array of what dealers are trying to pass off as irrefutable charges, surcharges, fees, prep, destination, taxes, levies and various other cleverly named pocket-vacuuming colloquialisms. An educated consumer is the only defense against those contrivances. Knowing their game and beating them on their playing field and willingness to go elsewhere are the only antidotes. On the S10 I voted with my feet and it still cost me some sales tax in two states. Still came out way ahead... But not by as much as I could have.

With respect to resale, I put my clean 2012 up for sale at a reasonable price in March and have only gotten talkers and tire kickers. Admittedly though, it's only posted in forums and on craigslist. For whatever that's worth I don't know.

Yep! same here in So Cal. Thought I was going to get a deal on a 13', but they nickled and dimed it right back up there. Going to regroup and go for a ES.

It's soooo frustrating. I've taken to asking 'how much does the check need to be made out for me to walk out with the vehicle.' Luckily my preferred Yama dealer gets it.

Bought a Civic last week, it was grueling. Worked with four places, getting online quotes via the main Honda site. Ultimately I go with a fixed price dealer, they were the best of all the others. Their quote said "plus any OPTIONAL dealer installed accessories." I said I don't want any, I want the car with no accessories, can you sell me the car without accessories for the price you quoted. "YES" I say fine, see you at 6. We show up, they show us the car, we go to finish the deal the price is $600 different. What's this? "It's for cargo hooks, door protective film, all weather mats, and nitrogen filled tires. ($79 dollars) " I told them to take it all off. They argued, I showed them email exchange, they took it all of. It's offensive. How freakin' hard can it be? I look forward to the day when I go to amazon, choose the car, click 'buy now with 1-click', and they drop it off the next day.

My son turned 18, I took him aside and said it was time for "the talk." He says "Dad, I've known about sex since health class, and I don't do drugs." I pause, and begin "Son, it's something far more evil, it's called 'deceptive marketing practices.' " I go on for hours. I think he got it for the most part.

Wait, before I have a medical event from just thinking about the purchase experience, let's make sure I go off on "shop fees" ....

Thanks for the reminder of how fortunate I am to have Romney Cycles within a reasonable distance. I love not putting up with all the BS that you guys have me remembering about most of the dealers here closer to DC. A crate disposal fee? Damn, I'm glad I have a good dealer.

I'll tell my story...

I negotiated a price with a local Dodge dealer for a new Viper. While email pricing didn't include TTL any buyer with a clue knows the approx cost. Got to the dealer, met with the sales person, looked over the vehicle and I pulled out my checkbook and said lets get this done. He walks me back to F&I and I bluntly state, "Really, I have to go thru F&I?" Sales person looks down and mumbles yes...management thing. Great! Girl walks in and fumbles around on the computer. Hands me the contract and of course its loaded with crap. I tell her to remove all the addon's and reduce Doc fee's to $75. She says she can't and I tell her this is what I will write the check for....vehicle, sales tax, lic plus $75 doc fee. She says she will be right back. Her and another F&I guy come in and the whole lets get him to add things to his vehicle purchase begins. After saying No probably 27X I finally hold up my hand and say stop! I tell them to bring me a contract as agreed with no addon's or I walk. She looks me dead in the eyes and says, "you'd leave that brand new Viper for someone else to purchase?" I laugh and say, "try me". He says, we'll have to get management approval. I tell them I don't care if you have to speak to God directly. Come back with anything other than what I stated and I walk....understand? She comes back by herself and literally tosses the contract on the table at me and walks around to her desk chair and starts typing. I chuckle, write the check then take a copy of the contract and walk out without saying a word.

Complete opposite experience last week. Walk into my local Mercedes Benz dealer with quoted price from sales person. Met the sales person, look over the vehicle and again pull out my check book and say lets get this done. Again, we head for F&I. Ready to once again do battle but pleasantly surprised F&I did some small talk with me while he typed up contract details. Asked if I was finanancing or cash (check) then printed up the contract. Reviewed the details with me then I handed him the check and walked out with keys in hand. MB dealer will be top of my list for my next vehicle.

On their web site they show some great prices. Are you saying they don't add any fee to those prices? Do you think they take trades?

The only fee they add is some state mandated processing fee. I think it is $35 or $40. They don't do freight, setup, or any other BS fees. If you buy from out of state I think it costs another $15 to get a WV temp tag if you want to ride it home. Not required it you have a trailer.

It nice dealing with people that aren't out to screw you over. If they tell you something, they'll honor...period. Very refreshing compared to other dealers.

You call it sucky resale, I call it getting a hell of a deal on a bike I intend to ride the wheels clean off of.

I 2nd Dirt Dad's thoughts on Romney. Talked to them on the phone a couple times, got an OTD price, then drove there and walked out their door with the desired product at the agreed price with absolutely no BS. In my experience they're peerless in both price and simplicity.

In other news, it seems OTD has taken on a new meaning everywhere else.

I bought both my '12 and '13 from Van's Yamaha in Sparta, Illinois in less than five minutes without any BS fees........very good price + actual tax, title, and registration fees. I would not do business with any dealer who wants to add a bunch of extra fees.

Just bought a new '13 from Lee's in Harrodsburg, Ky. last Saturday. Great deal. Lower price than any I'd seen advertised, NO bs fees or add on's whatsoever. Listed price plus tax/title/license.. Great folks to deal with at a small family dealership. By far the BEST bike (or car) buying experience I've ever encountered, and I've been buying bikes and cars since '67. HIGHLY RECCOMMEND! ::015:: There ARE decent dealer's out there, they are just hard to find ;)

I for one would not mind picking up a low mileage private sale 2012 at a good price. That way I could avoid the dealer add-on charges.

A few years ago I bought a trade-in BMW from my local Honda dealer. After negotiating the price, they slapped a $250 document fee on the transaction, which I failed to notice and paid. Then, in all the excitement, I left the 'documents' sitting on the parts counter. When I went back to pick them up, they were gone (presumably thrown out). I subsequently had to pay another document fee of $25 to get them to photo copy my documents! Gotta love it.

Frankly, I wish the prices sucked a little more :)

I just put down a deposit on a 2013 for under $12,000 OTD with $1200 in Yamaha accessories and an extra year of warranty. It seemed like a fair price after calling around to dealers that I found on Cycletader. I found that many of those advertised prices are to hook you and did not include fees and accessories or warranty. They look good on paper to get you to call.

Three thousand off MSRP works for me. There will probably be better deals available once the 2014s hit the showroom floor but I didn't really want to wait to take that chance. I'm not sure when I will pick it up but I'll post the obligatory pics.

Congrats on your new ride!

I think that the current prices are good considering how much you would pay for that OTHER 1200cc shaft drive adv man toy....

Do I wish they were under 10k? Sure but I still mis 75 cent gas and 1 dollar packs of cigarettes and I don't even smoke anymore!
