There's a bracket for the exhaust header cover that is close to the right side pivot bolt.
Since the spring tension on that side makes it difficult to move the centerstand's right side by hand in all directions, you can use a screwdriver as a prybar against that bracket to hold the centerstand hole concentric with the frame lug holes.
That allows you to remove the bolt without having to 'unscrew' it due to pressure against it from the holes not being in alignment due to spring tension.

It's one of those things that after you do it....wreck a couple of threads and figure out why it happened (user error, no fault of the piece you're installing)....you wish you could start over knowing what you just learned ;)
Thanks again for a very good tip. I used that method with a small pry bar to install the collar on that side, but still had a time of it the first time. I removed the collars when I found the plate would not fit. After talking with ACD and finding that the measurements front to rear on plate were out of tolerance and they would replace it with one with proper dimensions, I again installed the collars. This time I didn't have as much of a problem, using the same small pry bar. I had not thought of prying a bit to align for normal bolt insertion/removal, but that makes a lot of sense and I will try that. As you say, I will not be doing the R and R with the bike on the centerstand, and with your tip, I should be able to do it on the sidestand. Either that, or will lift it with my chain hoist I already have installed in the garage.

My SW Motech plate was no problem in over 40,000 miles on two S10's and they were easy to R and R for oil changes, but I got enough of a taste of this bike's off road capability during the AR rally, that I want better protection.

Thanks again. Your help is appreciated.

After much research on the topic of skid plates, I have decided to pull the trigger on the ACD Plate. I also just learned that the 10% discount expires tomorrow! ...Just in time. :)

I like the full coverage the skidplate offers and the massive protection it provides. Although slightly heavier than the competitors, the added protection will be a must for me when I hit the Back Country Discovery Routes.

I just ordered it today and can't wait to get it. I also like the feedback directly from the supplier. That is really a nice touch.

I stepped up to the plate (hah) and ordered last night. The 10 percent off was a nice touch and free shipping to Maine is always a great deal. I love the look of this plate and after perusing all the others including feedback at different sites, I think this one is the way to go. I hope that installation is easy and I can hang the bike from a beam during installation, I just do not want to be playing screw around at oil changes. That said, this unit is handsome.

Thanks for the input and advice from this thread.

Gotta go shovel.

I bought on for my 2013 as an avid offroader it was the only plate that made sense, I have since modified mine so I can remove the oil filter cover and moved the drain holes, they were way off welded plugs in the wrong holes and cut in new ones. I thought I had a pic of the mods on my work PC but I'll post when I get home.

Nice mods. I left mine as is since it's a simple 4 bolt connection. The hard part, the back where it connects onto the center stand bolts can be loosened with the top two header area bolts removed to have the plate swing down for easy access. Seem's reasonable although I haven't tried it yet. :)

In theory it sound legit and easy without removing the rear bolts.

I have posted before but I am going to post again. This is without a doubt the best skid plate you can by for under $500. Sound, great fitting, well designed and mounting points that are solid and reliable,. I am a happy owner, have bashed mine with no bad results and have had the plate of and on again with no worries or stress. No affiliation, just a very happy customer after years of looking for the perfect skid plate. Spend you money on this one.

Ordered one last week. Unfortunately it is in a box wrapped up under the tree. Guess I'll have to wait a few more days before I install it and start enjoying it. ::012::

Any chance of a discount coupon code for Daylight Savings Time, Pi Day (3/14/15), coming of spring? The price of the skid plate isn't so bad, but the shipping to Alaska is a killer....

BIG +1. Very hard to justify to the wife how our 6th month old needs a skid plate for my bike. But a sale is easy to swing.

Hey there ACDRacing

What's the current wait on the plate?

Are these in stock here in the States or would it need to be ordered, fabricated, shipped, etc from Europe?

I want to pull the trigger on this or Tabasco's plate - the deciding factor is cost versus how long it'll take me to get it.

Oh and your ACD plate doesn't touch down before the pegs does it? (like Rumbux does)

Thanks!!

You should probably identify which skid plate you want from ACD (model year, color, etc.), but I just ordered a black skid plate for my 2014 Tenere and it shipped out the next day, so unless I purchased the last one, they seem to have them in stock....

Hi Timmeh,

Sorry for late answer, we had some issues with login... everything back to normal now. We have all the models in stock and they are shipped in 1 business day so you should have it within 3 to 5 days after your order.

No rub with the pegs!
