    SCOOP Yamaha’s plans for an 850cc, 115bhp adventure bike - March 3, 2017

Thanks for the comments, CW. I'm also riding the Austrian Alps again with the daughter and her husband. I was supposed to do this two years ago, then this cancer thing got in the way. Anyway, when daughter called and said they were going back again this year and wanted me to go along, what...

    SCOOP Yamaha’s plans for an 850cc, 115bhp adventure bike - March 3, 2017

Should be a great tour, Snake. It's an Edelweiss Extreme tour. Been on a few of these before. They are a little more challenging than the usual Euro tours with some gravel and tiny paths through the mountains. We rode the Pyrennes Extreme a few years ago and rode up to an old monastery...

    SCOOP Yamaha’s plans for an 850cc, 115bhp adventure bike - March 3, 2017

After a bout with cancer and chemo, I was left so weak I could barely roll the S10 out of the garage much less put it up on the center stand. So I started looking around at a lighter bike. I don't ride off road that much anymore, so the FJ-09 seemed like the perfect bike for a weak and aging...

Need advise on upcoming trip to Alaska!

We took camping gear to Alaska, but never had to use. We were told, however, it is good to carry a tent in case of a break down. Gets you out of the weather and away from the bugs if you have to wait for help. Also, pack half the clothes you need on do laundry once.

Needed a bit of permanent storage capacity - Pelican case 1150 was the solution.

A word of warning. I mounted a pelican case on the top plate of luggage rack with the spacer underneath removed to lower case. After a couple years, I noticed that the top plate has now cracked.

    Changing spark plugs

IF I recall correctly, the air box can be removed without taking the cover off. Just be sure to remove the center screw under the rubber plug.

    Un-Even Idle, Hard Start, Vibes...Cured!

What type battery did you get ? Most of YTZ14S batteries look to be too large to fit the S10.

How many kilometers from the heidenau k60 tires?.

I replaced my front at 16,000 miles. It would have went farther but it cupping due to me running it on trip with low tire pressure. Same here. Checks, I replaced my rear tire after 15,000 miles. It wasn't down to the wear bars yet, but was getting a little squirely in corners due to squaring.

Are K-60's still the way to go?

I like my K60's. Got 16,000 miles out of my front. It would have went more, however, I ran it below 30 PSI for a few thousand miles and it started cupping on the side lugs. Just changed the back out. It had 14,000 miles and still not down to the wear bars, however, it was getting a little...

    OEM luggage Rack Fail

Yup, there is a sticker on the rack which states the max weight. I removed the stronger sub rack to make the luggage rack top level with the base plate under the passenger seat. I run with the front seat only. I mounted a small Pelican box to hold some tools and tire repair kit to the rack...

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned

The decision has been made. The FJ seems really small with the 56 inch wheel base. Rode the FJ for about 500 miles over a few weeks, then took the Tenere back out on a four hour back road exploration. I'm in love with Super Tenere all over again! So, it's off the dealer for a valve check...

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned

I was riding the FJ-09 Sunday with a guy on a XSR900 and I didn't like the tail light or the headlight. Liked everything else. BTW, I DO have both bikes. But I agree I'd have to give the S10 away to sell it. I'll just ride both bikes for a while, despite not having enough garage room, unless...

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned

I was hoping for a new lighter Tenere with the FJ-09 motor, however, I am hearing Yama Mama has opted to put the FZ 07 twin in a new Tenere. Nice motor, but it isn't the triple.

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned

My name is Bob and I went out and bought an FJ-09. There, I said it. So now it's back and forth, forth and back.......which one to keep. The S10 has treated me really fine, but it's time for the 26k valve check and I guess I should complain about the non-existent CCT noise while its in the...

    leak on garage floor

The fan works, I heard it come on periodically during the ride. The coolant overflow tank shows half full, right between the low and high marks. I'm pretty sure it is coolant since it has now evaporated leaving only a darkened spot on the concrete. I don't think brake fluid would do that.

    leak on garage floor

Everything was pretty much dry. It's definetly not the final drive seal or water dripping off the fender. I am thinking it is coolant from the overflow tank which may have been over filled since it was just changed out. It was really hot and the coolant may have expanded and pushed out of...

    leak on garage floor

I rode about 400 miles yesterday, highway and backroads with some gravel. No issues. This morning I noticed several spots on the garage floor under the center stand. I rolled the bike out for a closer look and have found small drips coming off muffler and dripping on to the front of the swing...

    Exhaust popping

If it's popping on decel, it's running lean. Better fix it.
