Valve adjustment - more lessons learned

Nice write-up. I'm in the process, now, and find that I followed much of what you listed, even using the vise and rubber as you did! I did take the trouble to drill a very slight detent in the body and place a small ball bearing where you used the tin. (held in place with grease.) Although it...

    Worried [about compression reading]

Didn't know about the auto decompressor....duh. (My '80 xs650 never gave it a thought).:) 'Appreciate the info. 'On my way to doing my first valve check. Big thanks, there.

    Worried [about compression reading]

Machine: 2012 Super Tenere, about 35 k miles, I'm the second owner. While changing air filter, I decided to have a look at the spark plugs, and with the plugs being removed, 'decided to check compression. Expecting to get readings up to 100 or more psi, I was disappointed in getting 64 on left...

    Handlebar ergonomics

Yep. As I was riding my just- purchased Tenere, used '12, I realized that the "elbows out" OEM bars would not work for my intended riding, which was road touring. Being old school (and cheap), I simply removed all bar attached devices, got out the torch, attached a strap "comealong" to each...

    "Lash"

I just ordered my Booster Plug, and when I saw the logo, I realized, "heck yes! I know what these are...I had one on my '04 BMW RT!" It worked great! So great that I forgot about it, lasting me for nearly 100k miles. Again, THANKS for the assist. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk

Thanks again, Cyclemike. It seems to me that we've had the same issues, and you found a solution. Probably like many in the forum, my riding varies according to situation, so spinning it up in the country or freeway might be followed by easing through a campground. I want my ride to do both...

Good point. I thought the 90 degree Duc engine looked kinda odd, but loved the smoothness...hmm, I guess I could say the same thing about the boxer. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk

Cyclemike 4, a couple questions. Can you describe for me where are the bleed screws are? And, can you--or anyone--enlighten me about booster plugs? Thanks I take your point, Tabasco. I agree that the engine likes to be revved. 20 mph in 5 or 6 gear is stupid. But, I ask, shouldn't that same...

    "Lash"

Your description is more precise than mine. Yes, "light throttle" is where the problem is. Also, it seems to be getting worse, so bad that I was beginning to think "trade." Your suggestions may have saved me some money...and grief! I want my bike to run like yours! Your comment also points to...

    "Lash"

Thats interesting. Thanks. But, actually, the throttle...the engine...is okay...runs smoothly in the low speed chugging in traffic. But the drive shaft is lashing. Going up to 6th makes it worse. Spinning it up in 4th S or T eliminates the problem, but I'd rather chug at low revs in town....as...

Could be, MattR. I might have to live with it. I'm guessing that it might be an unavoidable result of a big twin with cross-plane (plain?) timing. Thanks.

    Penske Shock via Thermosman

Just to anyone thinking about getting the Penske shock, I couldn't be more pleased with mine with about 20k miles on it. Set up by the guys at Penske for my size and roads that I ride (no trails), the Penske made me a happy owner.

My only complaint about my 2012 Super T is what I call a "lash" when cruising through small Midwest (US) towns at speeds between 20 and 35 mph. If the bike were chain drive, the clunking/stuttering would be from being in too high of a gear and/or a too loose chain. With my Big T, I reduce to...
