What you did to your Tenere today??!!

Finally finished adjusting the valve clearances on my Gen 1. I didn't actually think it was such a bad job but I just took my time. The worst part was waiting 2 weeks for the dealer to get the shims into stock. The best part was using a left-over bit of LED light strip to light up the engine...

One button club - close to a fix?

I've only just seen this post. I'm really pleased that the fix worked for you and your button is back in business, great news. To me, this is what forums are really about.

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

I've never used dielectric grease. Maybe that's why one of the connectors by my battery feels like it was welded together! I usually use Waxoyl on connectors, it looks horrible but hasn't caused me any problem for the last 33 years. Now to tackle that stuck connector, well I've got to do...

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

I'm adjusting the valve clearances - 6 of 8 are below the minimum clearance at 42k miles. I don't think they have been done before. Now waiting for the shims to be delivered to the Yamaha dealer, but not the Yamaha dealer who told me I had to buy each shim size in minimum packs of 5 (that's 5...

One button club - close to a fix?

I also contacted a local repair shop, but they didn't answer the phone or reply to emails, that's why I did it myself! The electronics forum guys said that the fix was really easy and "literally any repair shop will be able to do it in 10 minutes".

One button club - close to a fix?

Good man! I don't know how much knowledge you have on this subject, I had none and these are the main things I learnt: If you do try it, you can test that you have the right connections by simply connecting the two points shown with a wire pushed in (as long as it makes a contact) and then...

Bike pull left, cruise control hand off.

Sorry for straying off topic, but on the subject of Newton, here's a photo of my other bike parked outside his house a few weeks ago.

I've had feedback from the Electronics guys and their verdict was "it's not terrible, but..."

One button club - close to a fix?

After much head-scratching, I have now fixed the left-hand button on my Gen 1 dash which failed about 6 months ago. I am not an electronics person and have never tried anything like this before, it was actually quite simple in the end but vaguely terrifying because I thought it likely I would...

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

I rode precisely 3.2 miles - why do I tell you this? Because I've fixed the left-hand button on my (Gen 1) dash and can now see the trip meters after 6 months without them! I am genuinely please that the fix worked, and a little surprised that I didn't wreck anything while I was doing it. I'll...

One button club - close to a fix?

I thought it was getting more difficult to use, then one day it just stopped working. The problem on mine is corrosion on the PCB (circuit board) quite close to the left-hand button, but not the button itself. I'd get it back under warranty if I were you.

One button club - close to a fix?

It's about the left hand button on the dash which toggles the trips. I read loads of threads and found no solution to the problem but a lot of unhappiness at the cost of replacing the dash.

One button club - close to a fix?

By using my lack of knowledge but stubborn refusal to accept a failed (left-hand) dash button, I think I'm getting close to a fix! I've had the button actually working again this morning on a temporary fix! I have currently found that the failure occurred due to corrosion on the PCB. I have...

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

Took the dash off my Gen 1 with its failed button. Took it apart, had a close look and posted some photos on an electronics forum to see whether a repair can be figured out. I think the PCB trace has corroded and might be capable of being repaired. I'll let you know how it goes, or you'll hear...

    Odometer/Trip reset switch

My left trip button failed today. 2012 Gen 1 with 40,000 miles.

What you did to your Tenere today??!!

Fitted an APE manual camchain tensioner to my Gen 1. Didn't need the new clutch cover gasket, didn't lose a drop of oil (it was on the sidestand) and I think the biggest mistake I made was test riding it afterwards without earplugs in! Seemed like a pretty simple job.

Thanks Guys, I didn't know there was an alloy one available.

    Rear shock knob (UK)

Hi, I'm looking for the standard rear shock absorber knob - the black plastic one to adjust preload. Mine is 'stripped' so it doesn't adjust the preload. It doesn't seem to be listed as a separate part from Yamaha and I'm not buying a whole new shock absorber just to get this part! I'm in...

    CCT Question

Incidentally, my bike is a 2012 Gen 1 with nearly 40,000 miles on it. I've ignored the rattle since about 32,000 miles but now it can be worryingly loud and long on startup so it does seem to be time to replace the CCT.
