I have been volunteering for an OHV advocacy group since 2000, and now sit as the President of the Board of Directors. I'm not giving up without a fight!
Good on you! I'm not involved in any clubs or official meetings, but am one of the few that went out and bought a chain saw, mount to clean trails as needed as no one else does it. We are respectful of what we have as well. Often times, people are just flat out assholes. They litter, cut down live trees for fire wood etc. Last year there was a grad party in the woods. The ass hats started a huge fire that threatened the near by village, and sucked up tons of resources. As usual, people commented that it was 'likely OHV users'
There are some serious ass hats out here as well. Mainly guys with huge monster mudders that dig holes, and the weekend warriors that come out, and ride their quads, mx bikes once a year plastered.

We happen to be caught in the middle, and usually made to look like the bad guys.
