Hello
I'm Mark from ireland.
I'm hopefully going to travel from ireland to the artic circle center in Norway next year .
Currently just looking at different bikes and a super tenere seems to be at the top of my list at present as I don't fancy taking my hayabusa.

I said I'd join in my search for some information.

A nice welcome from Cape Breton Nova Scotia Canada. Where in Ireland are you? I used to live in Arklow a long time ago.

Cheers, Richard

Mark, I travelled from England to the Nordkapp last year, if there’s anything I can help with, just shout.

here’s a shot from the Lofoten Islands,

Hi Boris
Thanks for the picture.
Which bike did you use (year etc) for the trip .
How long were you on the bike each day and how did it perform ?

Hi Mark

I used my 2013 Super Tenere, which had about 44k miles on it when I left for the trip. The total miles on the trip was 5500 miles. I had a top box, a 60 litre dry bag attached to the rear seat and a small crash bar bag on each side. The bike performed well, I really couldn’t fault it in any way.
I travelled alone and was generally on the road by 8-8:30 each morning and stopped at overnight digs by 4pm. Note though, I stop a lot to take photos and enjoy coffee/snack breaks in order to soak up the scenery. The whole trip, England, Nordkapp and back through Finland and Sweden took about 10 hours short of 3 weeks. I did however take a very scenic and convoluted route north.

I agree with Sierra about going for a Gen2 bike. IMO, it’s more the finished article, has the improved clutch basket and CCT, plus cruise control.

There’s lots of photos from my trip on this thread, from page 226 onwards

I see in on of your posts you say the bike still sounds like a bag of spanners ,is this a general tenere thing or gen 1 ?

Yep, the Super Tenere is mechanically noisy and it really is a case of, that’s just how they are. The Gen1 bikes can suffer from vibey clutch baskets, which make the bikes more noisy. The Gen2 bikes have a different, quieter, less vibey basket. Note, not all Gen1 bikes were affected by the basket issue, mine was and it was awful, I changed the basket to the updated version early on in ownership. TBH I don’t notice the noise anymore. I always wear earplugs when riding, so no issues there, when it’s stationary and ticking over, I’m not bothered.

The Gen2, in my limited experience, is quieter and more refined.

If you are looking for a bike that will get you to Nordkapp and back again, then the Super Tenere is made for just that. For My money, the post 2014 bikes are the ones to look for, what is your budget and are you willing to travel to mainland UK for the right bike? I know of 3 really nice ones including my old bike sitting in a small dealership near me.

When the time comes to buy the UK is not an option unfortunately due to the vat we must pay since brexit

If I can't find local I'll have to look at the rest of the eu.

Tbh I won't be purchasing for a while yet ,so I'm just gathering info at present, but I appreciate the heads up on the 3 bikes

Hi Mark, sorry, I forgot about you being in the Republic, some people have a lot to answer for the UK getting shafted by Brexit!!! Good luck with your search, you won’t be disappointed.
